Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds and looks every bit of it. Durable frame with some projection left. Has some pace to the delivery and works with normal effort. Arm swing is short and quick from a three-quarter arm slot. The fastball sat 83-85 throughout his three innings and touched 86 twice, both in the first inning. Caruso showed some feel for the fastball to both sides of the plate and was more control than command. The fastball tended to be up, but did not find many barrels whether it was up or down. The breaking ball had more slider feel at 72-74 mph. He did show the ability to throw it fairly consistently for strikes, but it was more of a get over pitch and did not show finishing qualities. While he worked three scoreless innings he did find himself with runners on in every inning and began to work exclusively from the stretch in the second and third. Got ahead in counts, but was unable to finish them early which ended up leading to deeper counts and higher stress innings because of the pitch total and runners being on base. Caruso would benefit greatly from adding some depth to the slider that already has some feel around the zone and a third pitch to change some looks for hitters. The body and the way the arm works offer some intrigue and should continue to trend up as he adds to his repertoire.

Caruso is 6-2 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load up and back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, some strength at contact, showed a pull approach with the ability to use the whole field, natural loft in his swing, some real power present to his pull side with gap power to all fields, exit velocity was 92. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, shorter arm action, position velocity was 80. Ran a 7.28 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, shorter loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive crossfire delivery, shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 80-83, with hard late armside run. Slider was 72-76 with good armspeed and late hard 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 72-73 with good armspeed and some late run.
