VA/DC Scout Blog

Since the last time I saw Faulkenberry the frame has added lean strength. At the plate Faulkenberry found the barrel in multiple at bats. Hit a hard line drive right back at the pitcher in the third that would have been a two RBI line drive. In his next at bat he singled through the left side. Hands make a late load and drop slightly. Quick hands and bat through the zone with a slight uphill path. Head stays behind contact and shows solid balance in the swing. Faulkenberry is a Longwood commit.

DCPL Scout Blog

Faulkenberry has an athletic frame with some projection left to it. Very athletically talented, has speed in the outfield and arm strength. At the plate, hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short smooth load down and back. Some violence in his hips and balance in his lower half. Hands are very short and quick to the ball with extension through contact. Slightly uphill line drive swing path with easy gap power present to all fields. Has shown feel for the barrel so far this spring and has used the whole field well. In the swing on the video, he is in a two strike count, and you can see him keeping his hands back as he adjusts to the breaking pitch, then he stays short to it and gets the barrel on the ball with enough force to get a base hit.

Preseason All-State I

Positional Profile: OF/IF
Body: 5-foot-11, 180-pounds.
Hit: RHH.  Hits from slightly open set up. Simple short leg lift load with slight weight shift back. Hands are short to the baseball with some extension through contact. Strength to pull side. Nice rhythm in swing. Shows some quick twitch. Hands work well and good lower half usage.
Power: 99 mph exit velocity from the tee. Has some explosiveness. Like the quick hands and strength in wrists.
Arm: RH.  IF 87 / OF 87 mph. Clean transfer. Shorter arm action throwing from a high slot. Comfortable throwing from multiple angles.
Defense: Stays on balls of feet and moves are athletic. Like to see smoothen out actions some more. Clean exchange to release. When asked to be quick, makes the proper moves and gets rid of the ball with carry.
Run:  4.11 runner Home-to-first time

SBA Scout Day

Athletic with a chance to be very physical at 5-foot-10, 150 pounds.  Frame will handle plenty of strength additions in the coming year.  Right handed hitter.  Quick with looseness and solid rhythm.  Tall and balanced in his setup.  Average stride, sinking into the backside.  Bat waggle settles into a load down with the hands and the bat working from a vertical position.  Wants extension.  Average barrel awareness.  Better than average bat speed.  Working for lift in the swing with a pull emphasis.  Swing translated into some swing and miss, but also big damage in game situations, include a HR to center.  Average hip bend behind the plate.  Hands work.  Low exchanges and a short arm swing to an over-the-top slot.  Good carry with a positional velocity of 81 mph from the crouch.  Average accuracy with pop times ranging 1.99 – 2.22.  At 3B, average bend fighting for rhythm between the feet and hands.  Catches the ball in the middle of his frame, transitioning to a tall base and short arm action.  Advanced carry and some accuracy at 87 mph across the diamond.
