Gartrell is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength on it already and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands are short to the ball and stay inside it, slightly uphill swing path, showed a good approach working gap to gap, power plays up to pull side, exit velocity was 87. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 79.
Strong mature frame at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. Hits from an upright stance. Starts square before striding forward and landing slightly closed. Hands set high, minimal load, and a level path with plenty of bat speed getting it through. Displayed ability to hit for power to all fields, loud contact, and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. Gartrell has a chance to make an impact as a 2-way at the next level.
Preseason All State I
Big strong frame at 6-foot-3, 198-pounds. Stance starts square with a slightly wider base. Small pickup to put down landing slightly closed. Loads the front shoulder closed and hands move back to a slight bat wrap before initiating the swing. Swing has an uphill path with a high upright finish. Lower half finishes completely and posted an exit velo of 86 mph. Fields from a somewhat upright position after attacking the ball vertically. Fields out front and brings to center for clean exchange to a longer arm action throwing from a three-quarter arm slot at 66 mph. Home-1st was 4.70.
NOVA Fall Review
Gartrell is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back, has quiet relaxed rhythm to his swing, hips rotate completely, he maintains good balance during his swing. Short to ball, uphill path with extension through the ball and some strength at contact, showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 81. At first base, gets body behind the ball and fields with average hands, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 71.
