The Winter Update first session was held on Saturday, December 7th at the Coastal Sports Performance Center. Today we give you our analysis breakdown from the event.
John Bastiaans 1B/3B Cox 2021
Projectable athletic frame at 6-foot, 150-pounds. Athletic open stance with weight loaded into back leg. Hands relaxed, load back to slight arm bar, square on landing, and lower half finishes with some explosion. Swing path had some uphill tilt, line drive tendency, and did a solid job using the middle and back side of the field. Exit velocity was 77 mph.
Landon Bonneville C/RHP Kings Fork 2022
Strong physical frame at 6-foot, 170-pounds. Hits from a slightly open stance, small leg lift to stride, and lands on line. Hands load back to an arm bar, definite hand speed and strength getting through the zone, and swing path was level. Loud contact that produced consistent line drives from gap to gap. Exit velocity was 84 mph. Bonneville displayed a no doubt ability to hit for power and is an intriguing bat to keep an eye on going forward.
George Feliz 2B/SS George Washington (NY) 2022
Compact athletic frame at 5-foot-4, 130-pounds. Square athletic stance from the right side, pick up and put down landing on line, and hands make minimal load back. Short level path to the ball and was quick out of the zone. Produced consistent line drives and used the middle of the field well during his time at the plate. Exit velocity was 67 mph.
Garrett Gartrell 1B/RHP Norfolk Christian 2020
Strong mature frame at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. Hits from an upright stance. Starts square before striding forward and landing slightly closed. Hands set high, minimal load, and a level path with plenty of bat speed getting it through. Displayed ability to hit for power to all fields, loud contact, and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. Gartrell has a chance to make an impact as a 2-way at the next level.
Jacob Genzler OF/RHP First Colonial 2022
Long projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 160-pounds. Starts from a square athletic stance, simple stride forward, and lands on line. Hands load back in rhythm, short to the ball, and displayed some hand and bat speed through the zone. Slightly uphill path and a high finish. Flashed some gap to gap power potential in the swing. Exit velocity was 81 mph.
Alex Kowalski SS/OF Landstown 2022
Athletic makeup at 5-foot-10, 150-pounds. Hits from an open upright stance, small leg lift to stride, and lands square. Hands load back to a slight arm bar, slight uphill path to the swing, and showed some pull side tendency. Maintained solid balance during the swing and could benefit from more lower half involvement. Exit velocity was 78 mph.
Devlin Montgomery 2B/SS Randolph-Mcon Academy 2021
Solid frame standing 5-foot-7, 170-pounds. Open athletic stance, pronounced leg kick to stride, and lands on line. Hands make minimal load back, slight bat wrap, and was short to the ball with a slightly uphill path. Swing is quick in and out of the zone and Montgomery used the backside of the field well at times. Exit velocity was 80 mph.
Dustin Moon 2B/OF Isle of Wight 2022
Athletic frame standing 5-foot-9, 135-pounds. Hits from the right side in a slight crouch, wider base, and starts and finishes slightly closed. Small step to stride, hands load back to an arm bar, and used a level path in the swing. Consistent line drives and handled himself the best when he maintained a gap to gap approach. Did maintain some balance during the swing, but could get more usage out of the lower half. Exit velocity was 79 mph.
Richard Negron OF Kellam 2020
Athletic makeup at 5-foot-8, 152-pounds with some physical strength. Ran an impressive sub 6.9 60 both times through, with 6.87 being his best. Slightly open athletic stance at the plate, simple stride in landing on line, and hands make simple load back in rhythm. Slightly uphill path, showed some bat speed getting through the zone, and used the backside of the field well staying inside the ball well. Exit velocity was 86 mph. Defensively was under control on approach, fields outside glove foot, and had a full arm circle to throw from a three-quarter arm slot at 87 mph from the outfield.
Anthony Oporto SS/RHP Indian River 2021
Athletic makeup at 5-foot-10, 145-pounds. Slightly narrow base hitting from the right side. Starts closed and finishes slightly closed after a simple stride forward. Hands are short to the ball, swing had a slight uphill path, and stayed gap to gap for the majority of the rounds. Shows some aggression in the swing and finishes the lower half completely. Exit velocity was 78 mph.
Brayden Pendleton RHP/OF Hickory 2023
5-foot-11, 135-pounds with a thin frame and plenty of projection left to it. Athletic stance from the right side.
