7.14.15 Burton has an athletic frame and throws from multiple arm slots with a drop and drive delivery, primary using three-quarters and submarine. He has a loose arm and an easy arm action. He lands closed and falls off when throwing from three-quarters and lands even more closed when he drops down. Burton has outstanding feel for how to pitch and change speeds. His fastball had sink up top and down low, running 72-78 up top as he demonstrated the ability to add and subtract on the pitch. His slider sat 64 up top with 10/4 break and it had frisbee action from down low. His changeup from below was outstanding, thrown with great arm action and heavy sink, running 62-66. Offensively, hits from a balanced/athletic stance that is slightly bent at the knees. Smooth load back with a slight on bar. Short stride that is online. Maintained good balance throughout the swing with a fluid rhythm. Had a good approach doing around. Bat path was short and level. Line drive stroke with average bat speed. Had an exit velocity of 79 mph. In the field, had a long/loose arm action from a high three-quarter arm slot. Throws were accurate and had carry. Showed soft hands with fluid footwork. Exchanges were quick and clean. Showed good footwork and played through the ball. Has a very high baseball IQ and was able to make plays based on instincts. Had a positional velocity of 79 mph.
2.15.15 Hit from an athletic/balanced stance. Slight load back. Hands dropped to slot. Minimal stride with good balance. Hid his hands when striding. Good approach at the plate with confidence. Rhythm was smooth and swing was level. Swing had some length and got around the ball on occasion. Had an Exit Velocity of 74 mph. In the field, threw from a ¾ arm slot with a long, loose arm action with accuracy. Had athletic actions. (Foot injury prevented him from moving well laterally) Showed average hands with quick/clean exchanges. Showed average arm strength with a Positional Velocity of 72 mph. 2.15.15 Burton has a lanky frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. He starts his wind-up with the bent knees and has a long, loose arm swing. His hips are slightly open at footstrike and his shoulders are online and slightly uphill. He finishes square and in an athletic position. Burton’s fastball ran 71-73 mph, touching 75 mph with movement. He did throw a two-seamer with more action to it that came in at 69 mph. His slider had sharp 10/4 downer action to it, sitting 64-66 mph. Burton also threw a fading change-up that ran 68-70 mph.
