As we enter February, the high school season is quickly approaching. As the month progresses and February turns into March, we will take a look at high school programs throughout our coverage area as they prepare for the 2016 season.

Covenant School

 The Covenant School
Nickname: Eagles
Class: VISAA Division II
Conference: VIC
Head Coach: Jeff Burton
Twitter: @h3baseball
2015 Record: 17-11
2015 Post Season: Lost in VISAA Quarterfinals, VIC Runners-Up
Returning Starters/Position: 8
Returning Pitchers: 6

Luke Burton: (MIF, 2017) Burton led VISAA in stolen bases and runs scored in 2015.
Jacob Haney: (RHP/MIF, 2017, William & Mary) Haney is an extremely talented two-way player and is the son and grandson of former Major Leaguers. Haney is currently ranked 19th in the Virginia/DC Class of 2017.
Will Moore: (RHP/3B, 2017, William & Mary) Moore is another talented two-way player who has tremendous upside on the mound and is also ranked 31st in the Virginia/DC Class of 2017.
Tyler Mahone: (C/OF, 2017, Longwood) Mahone was an All-State player in 2015.
Trent Miller: (RHP/3B, 2016)
Matt Shobe: (LHP, 2016, Bucknell) Shobe has deceptive stuff and knows how to pitch.

The Eagles look to build off of a good 2015 season that saw a young team compete at a high level throughout the year and exceed expectations. As this talented group continues to mature, The Covenant School has the talent to be one of the better teams in VISAA Division II in 2016. The rotation will be anchored by a very talented group in Haney, Moore, Miller, and Shobe. The lineup retains its core as it is built around Burton, Haney, Moore, and Mahone. The Eagles should be one of the early favorites to win the VIC and one of the top teams in VISAA Division II as they will look to challenge defending State Champion Greenbrier Christian.
