A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
LHP Bjorn Johnson (Lincoln HS, WA), an Auburn recruit, struck out six in three innings of work. Working 90-91 early on with a loose, slinging arm action through a 3/4 slot with a slightly open stride down the mound, Johnson killed spin on a quality 81-82 changeup and dropped in a wrinkle slider that ticked up as the outing went on. There is late effort with some ability to miss bats with the fastball and Johnson should continue seeing the velocity tick up over the next year.
3/10/22
Athletic, high-waisted 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame with plenty of projection. Currently one of the top uncommitted arms in his class. Arm path plays long on the backside and finishes from a high ¾ slot. Fluid delivery to front foot strike. Fastball sat 87-88 mph in a short look, played with heavy life & occasional cut down in the zone and induced ground ball contact. Uncommitted
7/22/20
Strongly built, wiry frame at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds. Squarely built upper half with a wide build. Quick paced delivery with consistent tempo. High, balanced leg lift with some coil into his back hip. Shows some drop & drive after hand break as he begins stride down the slope. Gets full extension from glove side and creates slight shoulder tilt early. Levels out at landing as stride foot gets down. Lead leg opens up early, creating separation against his upper half. Clean, continuous arm path with whippy action through release. Works from a 3/4 slot. Stays on top of the ball and creates some downward angle on all 3 of his offerings. FB/CB/CH combination with all 3 flashing above average. Actions, frame and arm all project well for future development.
