Switch-hitter, has been going back and forth, regardless of the pitcher, but hit exclusively from the left side in this game. He double to straightaway center field in his first at-bat, putting a loose, quick swing on the ball. The bases were loaded in his next at-bat and he squared one up to right field, but it was caught at the track. He popped out in his third trip and was left on deck in the bottom of the fourth, before the game ended in the fifth due to the mercy rule. He made just one play on defense, an easy pop up in center field, but showed athleticism in pregame. He moves around the infield with ease, has athletic actions and an average arm.
SS, stood out defensively all week with his easy, athletic hands and feet. He consistently makes a quick, smooth exchange, especially on the pivot at second base and he has an average arm. He was 1-for-3 Thursday with a two-run single and a hard hit flyout.
8/9/18 - Stood out defensively all week with his easy, athletic hands and feet. He consistently makes a quick, smooth exchange, especially on the pivot at second base and he has an average arm. He was 1-for-3 Thursday with a two-run single and a hard hit flyout.
6/26/18 - Made a couple athletic plays in the field. First, it was a diving top up the middle to his right. Late in the game, he moved to third base and made a sliding backhand pick, but the throw was just a hair off at first base, allowing the runner to reach. On both plays, he was able to get to his feet quickly.
10/22/17 - Has a quiet confidence and high motor that makes him one of the top prospects in the 2019 class. He roped a double to the gap in his first at-bat. His quick hands rip through the zone to impact the ball after setting up with a reverse toe-tap. He, too, has a maturity about his preparation that stands out amongst his peers, and his high baseball IQ continues to help him grow as a player.
8/24/17 - Named to Team USA 18U team.
7/10/17 - Named to Team USA 18U trials roster.
6/29/17 - Young squared up a fly ball double against an 89 mph fastball and then knocked in a run with a hard single in the sixth.
6/28/17 - One of a few 2019s at the event, and showed good barrel control Wednesday. He was 3-for-4 and made hard contact on all of his hits. In his second at-bat, a runner on second took off for third and he found a hole on the right side, vacated by the second baseman trying to keep the runner close, and drove the run in. He is committed to Vanderbilt.
11/10/19:Freshman SSCarter Youngtook excellent passes at the plate all day, generating hard contact in three of his four at-bats. On this look, he was the most impressive of all the young Vandy bats and has the look of a potential top round pick in 2022.
