RHP Griffin Smith (Appleton North, 2022) was a recent winner at the Region Four showcase in Wisconsin, and impressed once again in this look. The true sophomore is listed at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, lean strength with some room to add on more muscle. Fluid tempo on the mound, high leg-lift works into a slight drop/drive lower-half, stride works in-line to the plate with an athletic finish. Long/loose arm swing out of the glove, working uninterrupted into a ¾ slot. Smith’s fastball topped out at 90.6 mph, sitting right at 89-90 mph with an average IVB of 17.4, also spinning over 2400 RPM at times. Slider played with 10/4 action and some depth before the plate, 81-82 mph (+2600 RPM). He also featured a changeup that looks to be a quality third offering, playing clean out of the hand with over 20” of run at times, 81-82 mph. Smith led the Golden Eagles in innings pitched last spring with 64, pairing with a 3.52 ERA, 89 strikeouts and 23 walks.

True Freshman. Projectable build, 6-foot-2, 175-pounds with room to fill out. Delivery is athletic with a high balance point, moves into a drop/drive lower-half while maintaining a bend in the back knee throughout his stride. Long/loose arm out of the glove into a ¾ release. His fastball ran up to 87.7 mph, sitting 86-87 throughout with run to the arm-side. Changeup showed well above-average action, reaching up to 26.9 inches of horizontal movement, 78-80 mph. Slider worked in the 76-77 mph range, flashing sharp 10/4 action at times.

5-foot-10, 150-pounds, lean wiry frame. Arm is loose and showed above average arm speed, works out of high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 80-82 mph, slight arm side action. Curveball at 67 mph. Changeup played 71-72 mph.

Body: 5-foot-10, 152-pounds. Wiry frame.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, slightly open stance, short stride. Uphill bat path, developing bat speed should come with strength.
Power: 78 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. INF - 76 mph. Loose whippy arm action, high 3/4 slot, highly playable on target.
Defense: Hands play out front, above average glove skills, clean exchange.
Run: 8.22 runner in the 60.
