12/5/14 - Verbally committed to South Mountain Community College (AZ).
8/6/13 - 5-foot-9, 150-pound catcher, athletic frame. Defensively showed soft hands behind the plate. Quick agile feet, quick out of the crouch. Arm action is short and loose, over the top slot with accuracy, showed carry at 77 mph. 2.08-2.18 pop times to second. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, leg kick trigger, good balance through contact. Line drive approach, solid hitter, lacked extension. Athletic rhythm and setup allows for high rate of repeatability.
6/26/13 - Nelson has an athletic frame with potential to mature. He uses quick, athletic actions defensively behind the plate recording pop times between 2.01-2.1 at 77 mph from the crouch. Displayed receiving and blocking abilities as well making him a high-level catching prospect. At the plate, Nelson hits from an athletic, balanced stance using a short stride. Showed some whip and recorded a 75 mph exit velocity off the tee, maintaining balance throughout the swing.
1/27/13 - Athletic 5-foot-9, 150-pound catcher. High level catch and throw guy, active athletic feet coming out of the crouch, loose soft hands receiving the baseball, great athlete. Could be one of the top defensive catchers in his class. Arm works really well behind the plate, clean quick arm action, strong arm, shows carry; arm stays on line, 74 mph out of the crouch. 2.05-2.1 pop times. Offensively shows a balanced setup and uses short stride. Bat path is short, lacks extension. Tends to hit off of front foot, excess movement in feet, moderate balance throughout.
