9/23/23

Committing to Madison College just days after the tournament's conclusion, RHP Landon Dessart (Union Grove, 2024) provided an upside look during the weekend. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-hander was impressive in his start, as he sat in the low-to-mid-80s (T86 mph) with his lively fastball that plays up. He mixed in two different breaking balls; the first being a traditional curveball that played with 11/5 action in the low-70s and the second was a tight slider that featured more horizontal break in the mid-to-high-70s. He rounded out his four-pitch mix with a high-70s changeup with fading action and occasional depth.

7/23/23

Dessart dominated on Sunday against Hounds, working into the seventh frame with no hits allowed. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound projectable frame yielded no runs through six innings pitched, allowing just one hit in the seventh. Balanced delivery, strong lower half. Commanded the zone with a fastball at 82-86 mph, T87. Mixed in a curveball at 70 mph, and a sharp slider at 74-75 mph that was thrown consistently for strikes.

7/20/23

Currently ranked No. 71 in Wisconsin’s 2024 class. Lean strength throughout a 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame. The right-hander gave an impressive look early Thursday morning, striking out three and allowing just one hit over 3.1 innings of work. Dessart worked his fastball up to 87 mph in his final batter of the game, but he sat comfortably in the 84-86 mph range for the duration of his start. To pair off his fastball, he went to a sharp breaking ball in the 74-76 mph range with out-pitch potential.

2/04/23

Dessart showcased himself as a legitimate two-way prospect at the event on Saturday. Dessart stands 6-foot-1, 170-pounds with more fill and strength coming to his athletic frame. He hits with a solid base and slight crouch set up with relaxed hands and gets himself into a strong hitting position consistently on time. He has a short compact flat bat path which allowed him to backspin line drives to both gaps. He registered the third-highest EV of the day at 95.3 mph and drove a ball 319 feet in the air. He also showcased a strong throwing arm during the defensive portion of the event topping out at 89 mph and this arm strength transferred over to the mound nicely. Dessart shined brightly during his ‘pen, with an athletic and repeatable delivery. He showed a consistent ability to drive the fastball through spots topping out at 85.5 mph and showcased a couple of legitimate secondary weapons with his sharp breaking slider and curveball. He’s also gaining feel for a change up which gives him a four-pitch mix to allow him to profile as a starting pitcher. While we did expect a lot from Dessart, his performance in Kenosha he may have even exceeded our expectations and is certainly someone to follow as he continues his prep career.

Dessart is another prospect with some two-way potential who is also making their rankings debut. On the mound, the 6-foot, 160-pound prospect throws a downhill fastball up to 84 mph and pairs it with a 11/5 breaking ball that occasionally flashes more horizontal break. Although we haven’t seen him in a showcase setting in quite some time now, we have seen Dessart tally multiple barrels across a couple of looks this summer.
