Heartland Scout Day: A top talent on the mound for the Hawks, Dutton has projection at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds and a clean delivery. He’s loose-armed and athletic, signs of more velocity to come. Presently, he sits 88-90 mph (2100 rpm avg, 2308 max) with his fastball and flashed a knee buckler curve at 76-78 mph with spin rates in the 2500 rpm range. Also showed a solid feel for a low-80s changeup.
Heartland Scout Day: Six-foot-2, 190 pound converted shortstop with great feel for a sinking/fading changeup at 81-83 mph. Natural cut to 88-90 mph fastball from H3/4 slot. Flashed avg curveball at 76-80 with depth and tight spin. Control should improve with use. Fourth pitch 81 mph short-actioned slider. Loose arm. Controlled, somewhat mechanical, tall-n-fall delivery with slightly closed landing and below avg extension out front.
7/24/18 - 6-foot-1, 170-pound infielder, lean athletic build. Strong above average arm across the infield, loose, high ¾ slot, carried with accuracy, 84 mph across. Rangy defender, feet play athletically and showed soft hands, clean glovework. 7.30 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride. Path is short, flashed quick hands, loose easy bat pat. Line-drive gap to gap contact, ability to spray and repeat. 87 mph exit velocity from the tee.
7/5/18 - 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Arm is clean out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball touched 86 mph, sat 83-85 mph. Curveball is hard and sharp, 12/6 action, 73-75 mph, swing and miss out pitch with ability to drop for strikes.
1.27.18 - 6-foot-1, 155-pound two-way player, lean frame. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride, tall through contact with solid balance. Path is short, average bat speed, 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed arm strength across the diamond, quick high ¾ slot and accurate, athletic arm action, carried at 86 mph. Plays through the baseball, clean exchange, soft hands. 4.69 runner down the line. On the mound works slightly across the diamond, smooth rhythm, uses slide step in the stretch. Quick loose arm, high ¾ slot. Fastball has slight sinking action, control, 81-82 mph, touched 83 mph. Curveball thrown aggressively at 71-75 mph, 12/6 action. Slight sinking change, 73-76 mph.
1/28/17 - 6-foot, 155-pound two-way player. Defensively arm played well across the diamond, over the top slot, 81 mph across the diamond. Actions are loose, clean through the baseball, showed playable hands. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, slightly dives to pull contact. Short path, pull side contact, occasional uphill. Fastball topped at 78 mph, sat 76-77 mph, mostly straight. Curveball played with 12/6 shape at times, showed feel for the zone, 68-70 mph. Changeup has fastball arm speed, 72-73 mph.
