Uncommitted, a rising name in the state’s sophomore class. Standing at 6-foot-1, 168 pounds with room to add to his frame. Johnson came on in relief of Jesperson and tossed the final two innings where he struck out three batters, walking one. Mostly two pitches in the look, locating both in the zone throughout this look, the fastball sat 80-82 mph with feel to locate the baseball throughout the zone. Went to a 69-71 mpg breaking ball that worked off the fastball with feel to locate in the zone.

INF/RHP Alex Johnson (Eau Claire Memorial, 2027) measured at an athletic and wiry strong 6-foot, 159 pounds. We were impressed with the swings Johnson was taking with a balanced and centered move to the hitting position. Johnson hits with a very quiet head, quick hands, a flat path and is always behind the baseball using leverage to drive the ball to all fields. In the infield, Johnson was 81 mph across the infield and his quick first step and soft hands indicate that he is likely to be able to stick on the left side. On the mound, Johnson was up to 84 mph with his downhill fastball from a high 3/4 slot. He complemented the fastball with a slider and fading change up that he displayed the ability to land in the zone. Overall, it was another solid day from Johnson and he continues to be someone our staff is excited about.

INF/RHP Alex Johnson (Eau Claire Memorial, 2027) is an underclassmen that impressed, 6-foot, 159-pound right/right two-way player. At the plate, the right-hander took a short and flat path through the baseball, consistently driving the ball on a line through the middle of the field. Defensively Johnson is a fluid mover in the infield with accurate throws across the infield with an arm up to 79 mph. On the mound Johnson works directionally towards the plate extending down the mound and working downhill. Three-pitch mix with a fastball that reached 79.1 mph with feel for the bottom of the zone. Johnson also showed a changeup that flashed heavy fading action, and a tight breaking slider, both pitches playing in the low-to-mid-60s.
