AHSAA Players of the Week: February 18- 23

February 18-23 AHSAA Players of the Week:

The first week of the high school baseball season was interrupted greatly by Mother Nature but there were still some impressive performances from around the state. In all, we highlight five 2019 grads, four 2020 grads and and three 2021 grads as our statewide Players of the Week:

John Michael Riley (C, Bob Jones) was 4-7 on the week including three 2B's, 2 RBI's 3 runs scored and a stolen base. 

Garrett Davis (OF, Andalusia) was 5-10 on the week with an OBP of .545

Clay Weatherly (RHP, Smiths Station) was brilliant on the mound going 8.0 innings and earning 2 W's on the week. He only allowed 4 hits with 8K's and 1 earned run. FB was up to 90 mph. 

Austin East (LHP, Bob Jones) The UAH signee threw 5 innings for the week, allowing 1 hit on 6 K's and 2 BB's. He did not allow an earned run. 

Carter Duke (SS/2B, Smiths Station) was 6-12 with 1 2B, 3 RBI's, 2HBP's, 6 runs scored and 1 SB.


Carson Swilling (RHP/OF, Smiths Station) The Samford commit was 6-13 on the week including 1 2B, 1 3B, 8 RBI's and 1 SB.

Tyler Colton (RHP, West Blocton) threw a 72 pitch, 7 inning masterpiece on Opening Day with 6 K's, 2 BB's while only allowing 3 hits. He was effective throwing 80% 1st pitch strikes.

Zane Faulk (C, Smiths Station) was 8-11 on the week with 2 2B's, 1 HR, 6 RBI's, 2 BB's and 1 SB for the Panthers.

Hunter Donaldson (SS/2B, Smiths Station) was 6-9 on the week with 2 2B's, 1HR, 6 RBI's and 6 BB's. University of South Alabama commit. 


Trey Mooney (RHP, Oxford) thew a 7 inning no hitter on Opening Day vs. James Clemens. He had 9 K's and 0 BB's in a very efficient outing. 

Trent Hodgdon (RHP, Smiths Station) logged 8 innings on the week and got two W's. He allowed 1 hit and 1 earned run while striking out 14. Hitters had a .037 BA against him. 

Trey Higgins (SS, Oxford) was 5-11 on the week including a walk off 3 run HR vs. Alma Bryant on Saturday. He had 2 HR's on the week to go along with 8 RBI's and 2 BB's.
