3/12/21

RHP Trent Hodgdon (2021, West Virginia) was another senior arm that has signed with a Division ! program that was tasked with getting the start against 7A Spain Park. A former Future Gamer, I had seen Hodgdon up to 93 mph in his first start in February, but worked more 87-88, 89 mph (2250) with excellent command over all of his pitches. The separator for Hodgdon is his power, 11/5 breaking ball (2450) that he can locate for a strike in the zone, or bury it in the dirt with two strikes. He didn’t have as much swing and miss to his stuff than we usually see, but credit that to a gritty Jaguar lineup and Hodgdon for working quick and filling up the zone. He was credited with the win in 5 IP (mercy rule), 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K’s. Definitely the ace of the staff and when he’s on the mound, the Panthers will be in every game they play.

2/12/21

'21 RHP Trent Hodgdon (No. 13, West Virginia signee) got the Opening Day nod for the Smiths Station Panthers vs. a potent Oxford HS lineup, and he did not disappoint through four innings. At 6-foot-2, 195 pound medium, athletic frame, the Mountaineer recruit showed what he has been working on over the last 11 months. Opening up in the 1st inning, Hodgdon was in the low-90's & hit 93 mph two times before settling into an 87-89 mph range in the 2nd, 3rd & 4th inning. Pounded the glove side against right-handed hitters and was down in the zone throughout the outing. Mixed & matched the fastball with that premium breaking ball we've grown accustomed to seeing with 2350-2450 rpm's. Excellent feel for backdoor to left-handed hitters. Flashed a few changeups with hard sink to any-sided hitter. Athletic delivery, worked downhill with intent on every pitch. Not much hard contact against Hodgdon, with the lone hit coming against the leadoff hitter in the 1st inning.

9/08/19

Very clean mechanics and arm action on this ‘21 RHP that continues a strong summer circuit. Really competes on the mound and shows the ability to locate down in the zone. The FB was 84-88 mph and sat at 88 mph consistently in his 1st inning of work. The fastball showed nice spin rate from the high 2200’s to the mid 2300’s. He can locate the slider type breaking ball for a strike early in the count and also has feel to throw it as a swing and miss pitch with 2 strikes. The spin rate on the breaking ball was high 1800’s- mid 1900’s.
