AL HS Team Preview: Edgewood Academy Wildcats

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Team Outlook

After making it to the 2nd round of the AISA Class AA Playoffs last spring, the Edgewood Academy Wildcats have high aspirations of advancing even deeper into the playoffs this year. With seven positional starters and six pitchers returning to their team this year, hopes are high for the Wildcats heading into 2023. 

The Wildcats look to be really balanced this spring across the board with some of their top pitchers and run-producers coming back from last year's squad that enjoyed success in their 2022 campaign. With plenty of experience coming back, Edgewood Academy will look to lean mostly on quality pitching and defense to lead this team. RHP Walker Hall (2023) is one of those pitchers that will continue to be relied on as one of the top arms on this staff this spring, as well as LHP Logan Moomey (2025) who is a sophomore that will only continue to get better and will see his workload increase. RHP/OF Bradley Boone (2023) and RHP/OF Hunter Reaves (2024) are also a pair of two-way upperclassmen that will be sure to provide some big innings on the mound, in addition to providing some offensive production for the Wildcats. OF Brock Whitt (2026) is another key returner for Edgewood Academy that saw time as an eighth-grader last spring, and is listed at 6-foot-3, 220-pounds. A couple others to keep an eye on this spring that also will be big parts to this team are MIF Drew Allison (2024) and 1B/3B Wes Reeves (2023). Both of them will look to lead the infield defensively and provide leadership as upperclassmen. 

With so much returning talent coming back from last year's Wildcat team that made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs, it's easy to see the high hopes that Edgewood Academy has for the 2023 season. They will definitely be a team to follow in AISA Class AA this spring.
