Madison, AL- Toyota Field, the home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, served as host for the 6A Buckhorn Bucks and the 7A No. 9 Sparkman Senators. This was the second game in as many days between the two teams as the Bucks came away with an 8-5 victory on Tuesday night in New Market. The Senators would even things up on Wednesday night as they were able to defeat the Bucks by a score of 8-1. Junior RHP Blake Taylor got the start for Buckhorn while senior RHP AJ Causey started on the bump for the Senators. Taylor took the loss as he threw two innings and allowed 4 earned runs on three hits and three walks. Taylor did strike out four Sparkman hitters. Causey was credited with the win after allowing only one hit with five strikeouts and no walks. The Jacksonville State University signee pitched four innings and only threw 47 pitches on the night.
The scoring started in the home half of the second as the Senators scored three runs. Sophomore Ryan Strachan led off the inning by blasting a triple to the right center field gap. Carter Wells drew a one out walk to put runners on the corners with one out. An errant pick off attempt at first base allowed Strachan to score the first run of the game. Tucker Burns then delivered a single to the load the bases with one out and Jakob Lewis drew a walk to force home another run. Kylan Duncan then singled up the minute to drive home the third run of the inning. In the fourth, Strachan once again started things off for the Senators as he was hit by pitch to lead off the inning. With one out, Wells delivered a triple to left field to score Strachan. Wells would later score on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Haley to push the score to 5-0 though three innings. The fourth and fifth innings were both scoreless frames as both teams would add runs in the sixth inning. The Bucks got on the board as Davis Craig delievered a one out double and later scored on a two triple off the bat of junior Cameron Winebarger. The Senators answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning as Burns drew a leadoff walk which was followed by a pinch hit single by Foster Dunn. Another pinch hitter, Will Buening delivered an RBI single to drive iin Burns to make it 6-1. Dunn crossed the plate on a wild pitch and the final scoring of the night happened when Strachan grounded out to score Bueing for the final 8-1 margin.
Buckhorn falls to 3-3 on the season while Sparkman improves to 1-3.
