Southeast Unsigned Senior Games: Team Alabama Quick Hits

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The Southeast Unsigned Senior Games took place on July 27th at LakePoint in Emerson, GA. The event featured some of the top 2022 uncommitted prospects from across the southeast.

Team Alabama was composed of the top prospects in the Class of 2022 that were still uncommitted leading up to the event. Players began their day going a full pro-style workout running a laser-timed 60 YD, defensive workout at their primary position and live BP with Trackman and Blast collecting offensive analytics. Following the workout, players played 14 innings of live baseball with pitchers throwing 2 innings each.

Team Alabama had a good showing in front of the many college recruiters on hand for the event. Today, we are going to take a look back at some of the top performers on Team Alabama.

Quick Hits - Team alabama

Tucker Jackson RHP / Houston Academy, AL / 2022

Easily had the most impressive outing out of any pitcher for Team Alabama, turning in 2.0 scoreless IP where he didn't allow a baserunner and punched out a handful of opposing hitters. Average frame at 6-0, 185, good arm speed with a compact & short arm stroke. Hides the ball well while working 87-89 mph with good command. Tunneled a mid-70's breaking ball well and flashed a quality fading changeup in the outing, both getting plenty of swing-and-miss. Division 1 interest since the event.

Brendan Wall RHP / Auburn , AL / 2022

Being recently known as a two-way player, Wall was one of the big winners on the mound for Team Alabama at this event. Strong & stocky 6-1, 205-pounds, uses strength efficiently in a slow-paced delivery. Got the glove side well and overpowered most hitters with the fastball at 88-90 mph throughout his 2.0 innings of work. Featured a low-70's breaking ball with big, 12-6 shape with above average feel, and played best when sequenced with an elevated fastball. Lone blemish was a solo shot in his second inning.

Andrew Hunt 2B / 3B / Oak Mountain, AL / 2022

An offensive-minded infielder with a pure hit tool, but can also hit for power as he's continued to show over the past few months. 5-11, 190-pound frame with strong hands/forearms, showed well during BP & translated to gameplay where he logged multiple hits throughout the day, one being a triple in his first at-bat into the pull-side gap. Real selective approach with a good eye at the plate, doesn't chase or get fooled. Not to discredit the defensive ability, but the bat continues to play at a high level. One of the best "hitters" left in the rising senior class shouldn't stay on the board too much longer.

Colton Wood C / Faith Academy, AL / 2022

A prospect who has flown under the radar for some time now, but Wood impressed in front of plenty of college recruiters last week. Medium 6-0, 190-pounds with upper-body strength, but has some sneaky athleticism as a primary backstop. A quarterback in the fall for the Rams, Wood was a key contributor in the middle of the order en route to a 6A State Championship for Faith Academy last spring. While being a 7.18 runner at the event (has been as low as 6.83), Wood also banged some balls around the yard in BP, as well. Will hit enough offensively for a catcher, and is equally adept behind the plate defensively with 1.90-1.96 pop times. Strong hands, receives & blocks well.

Fisher Moss RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2022

Enjoyed a really strong summer in '21 after being sidelined for most of the spring due to an injury. Average 6-1, 185-pounds with above average athleticism. Will probably be relied on in the spring as a two-way player, but his showing at this event hinted towards more upside on the mound. Athletic delivery gives way to an 85-88 mph fastball with run that he showed on Tuesday. Spins a sharp breaking ball with 11-5 shape & 2400 rpm's well, inducing swing-and-miss in chase counts. Committed to Snead State CC a few days after the event.

Todd Clay SS / 2B / Auburn , AL / 2022

One of the more reliable and consistent middle infielders over the past year continued to perform at a high level at this event. A long & rangy frame at 6-2, 195-pounds and does a lot of things well in his game. Simple, balanced setup at the plate with minimal movement of the hands up to contact gives way to quick hands through the zone. Sprays the ball all over the field during BP, and logged a few hits during gameplay including a double over the head of the LF'er. Glides across the infield with good movement patterns and crisp footwork. Arm strength to stick at shortstop, but showed versatility by playing multiple positions for the 7A State Champs this spring. Committed to Pensacola State a few days after.

Tanner Taylor SS / Headland, AL / 2022

Another prospect who has flown under the radar for some time, Taylor possesses all of the qualities to stick at shortstop in the future. Average 6-0, 170-pound frame with some present athleticism and room for more strength to come. Swings a heavy barrel through the zone and a line drive approach from the right side of the plate. Recorded a couple of base hits up the middle during gameplay, and produced a 94 mph EV during BP. Advanced defender up the middle with sure hands, range, and above average arm strength (89 mph) across the diamond. Solid, well-round player.

Davis Randolph 3B / Northridge , AL / 2022

Few players in the rising senior class possess some of the same upside that Randolph still has. Stands a fairly lean 6-4, 180-pounds with a chance for more strength to come. Good athlete for size with 7.08-speed in the 60 YD. Impacts the baseball using a quick and accurate barrel, some present power and could see more with added strength to frame. Feel to hit for line drives to the gaps during BP while producing a 94 mph EV, translated to gameplay with multiple hits. Made all routine plays at 3rd base, but could possibly move to 1st base or a corner spot in the outfield.

Bodie Vail OF / Northridge, AL / 2022

A recent decommitment from UAB, Vail has added some noticeable physicality since the last look while still maintaining above average athleticism at 6-1, 175-pounds. Started off his day by by running a 6.78 laser-timed 60 YD during the pro-style workout, then showed off solid arm strength from the OF at 88 mph and was on the barrel during BP to the pull-side. Short, quick stride from the right side, stays connected throughout with quick hands. Biggest swing of the day came on a liner to LF that got by the outfielder for an inside-the-park HR during gameplay.

Brodie Holcomb OF / Thompson, AL / 2022

Enjoyed one of the more consistent days out of any player for Team Alabama, combining a solid showing during the workout with a couple of hits during gameplay that caught the attention of some college coaches in attendance. Works uphill through the zone offensively that produces plenty of well-struck liners in the gaps. Uses present athleticism well in his game, recording a 6.73 laser-timed 60 YD. Boasted some of the top bat speed at the event with an average bat speed of 76.61 mph, per Blast Motion. Posted continuous quality at-bat's during gameplay. Committed to Wallace State CC a few days after the event.

Landon Baeder OF / Hazel Green , AL / 2022

Baeder quietly put together one of better performances of the day, combining a good showing during the workout with a knack for finding the barrel during gameplay against some quality arms. Compact 5-11, 170-pounds, packs some strength in the frame while still being athletic enough to play any outfield position. High baseball IQ and understanding of the game compliments a line drive approach at the plate well. Sprays the ball to all fields, and was consistently on the barrel during gameplay. Plays the game hard and will be a solid pickup for someone down the road.
