Welcome to our Arizona Player of the Week 

Each week our PBR Arizona staff will choose a Player of the Week from our coverage throughout the previous week's AIA Coverage. This player will be chosen based on their performance for the given week or for particular reasons that set them apart from other players from around the state of Arizona. We will try to post our player of the week at the beginning of every week throughout the spring high school season.

2022 SS Dante Turgeon

 

2022 SS Dante Turgeon (Benjamin Franklin)- uncommitted, Turgeon's power potential at the plate has stood out to us since he first attended a PBR showcase back in June of 2019. In our preseason event this year, he once again put his power on display but showed some more ability to use the RCF gap which has helped his consistency this spring. Turgeon has noticeable bat & hand speed while showing the ability to accelerate on plane quickly. He also stands at 6-2/205-pounds with present strength, having trimmed up his body even more going into the season. He makes it tough for pitchers to throw FB's over the plate with his natural strength & tools offensively. Defensively, we see Turgeon as a future first basemen but he's been playing shortstop consistently this spring which should help his feel and athleticism going forward. 

We haven't been surprised to see Turgeon's numbers at the plate this spring, especially while playing in 3A. He's been in the running for Player of the Week a couple times now but has just missed out. This past week, he had another big week where he went 6 for 12 with 3 HRs & 3 doubles including a walk off HR against Tanque Verde. Turgeon is hitting .516 (32 for 62) this season with 30 runs & 19 RBIs on 8 HRs, 7 doubles and a triple. He is 2nd in the state in home runs & 5th in runs scored.
