The Boras baseball Classic

Joshua Tiedemann 3B / RHP / Hamilton, AZ / 2023

The weather did not affect the Texas Christian commit in todays matchup between Hamilton and Douglas. Tiedemann went on to go 2-2 at the plate with one of them being a 2 RBI double in the top of the 4th. The right handed hitter has a tall confident stance in the box with a light load and stays extremely compact throughout his swing. Along with a solid day at the plate, Tiedemann made the start on the mound for the Huskies with 4 innings pitched and allowing only 1 run with 7 strikeouts.

Cooper Brass SS / 2B / Hamilton, AZ / 2023

New Mexico commit Cooper Brass putting together this long AB in the 4th for an RBI single to RF for the Huskies. Brass was a standout at this past years West Coast Games showcasing a crisp glove up the middle with some quick twitch speed on both sides of the ball. We look forward to following Brass the rest of the tournament and into the 2023 season.

Connor Mattison RHP / 1B / Canyon View, AZ / 2023

Grand Canyon University commit Connor Mattison faced off against the #4 ranked Basha Bears on Thursday afternoon and put up one heck of a stat line, throwing 7 innings of complete game baseball with only 1 run aloud on 9 K's. While Mattison didn't have his best stuff sitting 89-90, he was able to turn to his fall off the table changeup showing to be devastating for the Bears offense.

Liam Whalen 1B / OF / Canyon View, AZ / 2023

University of Colorado Springs commit Liam Whalen with the biggest hit of the day for the Jaguars, hitting a go ahead home run late in the game. That home run turned out to be the difference as the Jaguars went on to beat the bears by a score of 3-1. Whalen showcased a wide stance in the box with a quick toe tap load and smooth direct path.

Jake Sanko SS / 2B / Sandra Day O'Connor , AZ / 2024

Grand Canyon University commit with a huge day at the plate including 2 doubles with one being a walk off in the bottom of the 8th inning against Catalina Foothills. Sanko has showed high level athleticism throughout on both sides of the ball. At the plate he has a solid lower half with quick twitch in the hands and the ability to use all parts of the field. At shortstop he showcases clean actions with the glove, quality range and a strong accurate arm across the infield.

Jackson Babione SS / RHP / Chaparral, AZ / 2023

Paradise Valley Community College commit Jackson Babione continues to be a force for the Firebirds at the plate. With a 3-4 day, Babione is now hitting .520 on the season. At the plate Babione has a very unorthodox swing, but seems to always find a way to get it done. He has a wide base with a flat powerful path with the ability to drive the baseball to all fields.

Max Madrid OF / Basha , AZ / 2024

Washington University commit Max Madrid is always fun to watch on the diamond. Madrid has a strong athletic build with a quality amount of athleticism in the box and in the outfield. At the plate the lefty has a tall narrow stance with a smooth direct path with above average juice to the pull side.

Ryan Harwood 1B / RHP / Casteel, AZ / 2026

Top Uncommitted prospect in the state of Arizona for the 2026 class is 1B/OF Ryan Harwood. The left handed hitter has an incredibly strong build for his class standing at 6-foot-2 195 pounds. Harwood was 2-3 with two backside singles in his debut at the Boras classic while working a 10 pitch walk in the middle innings. At the plate Harwood has a tall stance with a quick flat path that has shown to generate hard hit balls to both sides of the field.

Gavin Smith SS / 3B / Basha, AZ / 2024

Harvard commit Gavin Smith has been lights out this week at the plate for Basha. With perhaps the biggest hit of the week for the Bears where Smith put one over the left field wall to put Basha up 6-4 over the #3 Casteel Colts. Smith has a tall stance in the box with a tight coil load and quick trigger hands. In the field Smith has a great glove at 3B with an above avg arm.

Paul Thomas Teel C / 1B / Nogales, AZ / 2023

New Mexico State commit Thomas Teel is your all around player behind the dish, and he showed that on Friday night against Basha. The 6-foot-1 195 pound catcher showed a relaxed presence behind the plate with smooth and quick actions receiving, with the ability to move side to side on blocks. In between innings Teel was 1.96-2.05 with solid carry on the baseball.

Gabe Schneider RHP / Casteel, AZ / 2024

One to keep your eyes on is uncommitted right handed pitcher Gabe Schneider. Schneider has a tall lean frame at 6-foot-5 170 pounds, with a loose arm action at mid 3/4 slot. Schneider's fastball showed to be his best pitch sitting 87-88 topping out at 89 with 2250 spin, and significant sink. We would like to see Schneider get a little more command of the zone, especially in the starter role. Schneider is a high follow for the Arizona staff.

Logan Reber C / RHP / Casteel, AZ / 2026

Uncommitted 6-foot-2 freshman Logan Reber made his debut behind the plate for the Colts on Friday night and looked as though he is a 3 year starter at the Varsity level. Reber showed a tremendous amount of maturity behind the plate, with the ability to receive and block balls well, while showing off a strong arm to second base. At the plate Reber was 1-2 with a double and 2 walks. Showing a tall stance with easy load and strong flat path for his age. Reber is a high follow for the Arizona Staff.

Cannon Peery 1B / 3B / Mountain Ridge, AZ / 2023

The top uncommitted 1st Baseman in the state had a standout week at the plate including this leadoff home run to strait away center. Peery was a standout at this past summers West Coast Games where he put on a show during the BP portion and later translated it into the game hitting a home run to left center field at UNLV stadium. Peery has shown to have some of the best raw power in the state. Defensively Peery is a quality defender on the corner with above average speed for his size.

Landon Hairston OF / LHP / Casteel, AZ / 2024

The Arizona State commit had one heck of a week at the plate including two no doubters to the pull side. Hairston has a tall athletic stance with a light toe tap load and smooth direct path. You will typically see Hairston in the outfield or at first base for the Colts. The inning prior to his second home run of the week against Chaparral, Hairston showed tremendous range at first base laying out and getting full extension on a ball in the 3-4 hole.

Chris Newstrom SS / C / Chapparal, AZ / 2024

The Tennessee Vols commit had a solid day at the plate against the Colts going 2-2 including this hard shot back up the middle. Newstrom has a tall stance in the box with a simple toe lift load and short compact swing. Up the middle Newstrom has shown to have one of the best gloves in the state with solid range and above average arm.

Ky McGary OF / SS / Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ / 2024

Arizona State commit Ky McGary had one of the more clutch hits on the night for the Eagles in their Championship run against Bishop Gorman, where he shot a 2 out single into the RCF gap for an RBI. McGary has shown to be one of the best athletes in the 2024 class. McGary is a sub 6.7 runner with a low to mid 90 mph arm from the outfield with a quality contact tool at the plate. While McGary is currently a gap to gap type hitter with expected added strength in the years to come, we should start to see those hard line drives in the gap turn to balls leaving the yard.

Cody Estes OF / 2B / Chaparral, AZ / 2023

The uncommitted outfielder Cody Estes had a solid day at the plate yesterday including this shot to left. Estes has a smooth flat swing from the left side with an above average contact tool. On the season Estes is currently hitting .381 in 9 games.
