2024 Season Preview - BC Watch List

Tate Martin SS / RHP / Vancouver College, BC / 2024

There’s a reason Martin is the #1 player in BC’s 2024 class. The North Dakota State commit is one of the top two-way players in the country. At 6-foot-1, 180-pound he shows athleticism on both sides of the ball. Sits comfortably in the high-80s with the fastball which is his most effective pitch, generating lots of swing & miss all around the zone. Has a curveball with depth that he can use early in the count for strikes, but also efficiently later in the count to put away hitters. At the dish Martin is just as effective, using a toe-tap to get on time and drive the ball on a line back up the middle consistently, while also showing the ability to go the other way with authority. The 2024 standout will look to dominate on both sides of the ball when the season gets underway.

Xander Guedes 3B / RHP / Seycove, BC / 2025

Guedes has been one of the top players in BC’s for a couple years now, so it’s no surprise to see him continuing to excel. The two-way player stands at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds and utilizes his size both in the box and on the mound. He sits in the mid-80s with the fastball that has both carry and ASR to it (17.2 IVB, 11.7 HB). He also mixes in a tight slider in the mid-70s and a changeup with late depth. However, the dish is where Guedes really excels. He was one of the better hitters at a talented Holiday Hitters event in North Vancouver earlier this month. 16 of his 24 batted balls were 90+ mph and reached a max Exit Velocity of 98.8 mph. He uses his strong lower half and bat speed (76.1 mph max, 72.1 mph avg) to drive the ball in the air to the big part of the field.

Logan Booth OF / RHP / GW Graham, BC / 2025

Booth had jumped onto the scene towards the end of the 2023 season, showing his offensive upside with the current strength he possesses. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Langley Blaze product uses bat speed (78.2 mph max, 73.4 mph avg) and torque generated from his lower half to drive the ball all over the field with authority. At the Holiday Hitters event in North Vancouver, Booth reached a max exit velocity of 97.1 mph. Along with his offensive capabilities, Booth showed us his athletic abilities in the field, running a 7.03 60-yard dash which is likely to be a sub-7.00 by the spring, and a strong arm in the outfield hitting 85 mph last October.

Jake Fehr RHP / Sands, BC / 2025

The Delta Blue Jays product really impressed in October at the Vancouver Fall Open ID. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound RHP works out of a ¾ slot with a quick arm. He sits 83-85 with the fastball and can really spin it, averaging 2401 rpm. This allows him to generate carry on fastballs up in the zone, generating weak contact and swing & miss. Added cut eliminating arm side run also allows him to have more true carry on those fastballs. His slider, arguably his best pitch, averages -20.7 inches of horizontal break which he can spin north of 2500 rpm. This profiles well with the fastball as it is most effective down in the zone. The changeup has plenty of armside run (21.4 HB) and plays well off the slider as it runs in the opposite direction. Fehr can really spin the ball which projects well going forward and it’ll be interesting to see how his repertoire looks after an offseason of development.

Everett Bertsch RHP / C / Riverside, BC / 2025

Bertsch jumped onto the scene in Vancouver at our Fall Open ID in October. At 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, Bertsch utilizes his physicality all over the field. Behind the dish he possesses both a strong arm and a quick transfer, collecting a POP time of 1.84 and velocity of 79 mph. In the box, Bertsch works back up the middle with controlled aggression, staying on a line consistently and reaching a max exit velocity of 90.3 mph. On the mound, he sits in the mid-80s with the fastball and possesses a tight slider in the mid-70s with two-plane break that he can spin at 2300 rpm. His athleticism and physicality will be something to follow when the season gets underway.
