PBR Canada Mizuno Prospects of the Week

Atlantic

2022 OF/1B Matthew Beach (Uncommitted/Kennebecasis Valley)
Beach is a physical 6-foot-3 227-pound uncommitted 2022 who makes his presence felt on the baseball field. At the plate Beach’s set up is relaxed and twitchy with an aggressive lower half. Beach looks to drive hittable fastballs, can sit on the off-speed while hitting the ball to the opposite field. We can definitely see him being a power threat at the college level. In the outfield he can cover some ground with his long legs, but he can also project as a first baseman in college.

British Columbia

2023 RHP Nick Frers (Uncommitted/North Shore Twins)
Frers, an uncommitted 6-foot-2 190-pound righty out of the North Shore Twins program is one of the more impressive arms in his class. The arm action is live and whippy with good arm speed. The ball comes out at a ¾ arm slot with a fastball that will jump on you quick in the mid to high 80s (T90). He also has a curveball that is sharp and has some late bite to it and a changeup that will get rights to bite low and in. Frers is a bit of a sleeper off our Future Games team, and will be a steal for a program looking for an impact arm.

Alberta

2022 C Gavin Galenza (Colby CC/Red Deer Braves)
Galenza, the Colby CC commit out of the Red Deer Braves program, has one of the strongest arms behind the plate in the country.  He has quiet hands and a good transfer out of the glove. Looks really relaxed behind the dish.. At the plate the approach is simple and compact, does not have any unnecessary moving parts with a good hand path staying inside the ball. Galenza can also pitch with good tempo and an aggressive drive off his back leg.

Quebec

2023 LHP/OF Loic Guillemetted (Uncommitted/TNXL)
Guillemette is a lanky uncommitted 2023 LHP/OF who really stands out on both sides of the field. At the plate the actions are smooth and twitchy with good rhythm in the hands. Guillemette gears towards a gap-to-gap approach with some juice in the bat. In the outfield he can cover a lot of ground with his long legs and quick feet also showing some arm strength behind his throws. On the mound the arm is short and quick with good drive off his back leg. Can also spin the curveball with late action to it. One of the more interesting Canadians in his class.

Ontario

2022 RHP Turner Spoljaric (Oregon/Toronto Mets)
Spoljaric, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-hander is one of the most impressive arms in the country. The Oregon commit attacks hitters with a fastball up to 93mph, a curveball that drops off the table and a changeup with impressive arm side run to it. Spoljaric has a long loose arm action with a good temp and composure while on the mound. He was also a standout for us at the Future Games as well as the Canadian Junior National team. He’ll start off 2022 at the Super 60 in Chicago this weekend.
