5/05/23

2023 RHP Nick Frers (Virginia Commonwealth) put together a good start against a good Vauxhall lineup and ran into some trouble his second time through the order but did a good job at times working out of jams. 6-foot-2, 185-pounds and moves well on the mound with some athleticism in there. It’s a two-pitch mix right now with the fastball/curveball and had both pitches working on Thursday. The fastball sat 87-89 T90 while the breaking ball was 76-78mph and he had the ability to land it for strikes or pound it into the dirt for swings/misses. It may not have been the best looking box score but it was some of the better stuff we’ve seen from Frers and did his part in giving North Shore a chance to knock off Vauxhall.

5/24/22

Frers, 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, put together the best trip from a B.C. prospect and solidified himself as one of the top uncommitted prospects in the province. We’ve seen flashes this year where Frers has been sharp but he carried that through the entirety of his two outings. The North Shore Twins right-hander worked 7.1 innings allowing 6 hits, 1 run (unearned), two walks and struck out 10. The 2021 Future Gamer was the third youngest player on Team Canada and returns to the North with plenty of momentum on his side as the summer circuit and warmer weather draw near.

5/05/22

Our first look at Frers since PBR Spring Training and the right-hander continues to flash some good stuff in his few innings from an athletic delivery. His velocity diminished quickly back in March but he maintained 85-86 last week, topping out at 88. He was comfortable with the curveball that had depth at 71-73. Overall a decent showing from Frers who’s stuff seems to be getting better every time we see him. 6-foot-2, 185-pound athletic RHP who consistently sits in the mid 80s and had many pro ABs… that’ll surely intrigue some college coaches.

3/15/22

2023 Nick Frers is one of the top uncommitted arms on the West Coast and looked the part tonight. The North Shore Twins right-hander sat 84-88 and although the velocity fell inning to inning, he showed what he has in the tank. It’s an athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds and the arm is quick on the mound. There’s feel for the breaking ball that has depth and gradual break. An exciting uncommitted arm who was with us this past summer at the Future Games.

1/26/22

Frers, a projectable 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-hander from the North Shore Twins is a good looking arm from Canada's Futures Games team this past summer. It’s a simple, easy delivery with lively, whippy arm action. Frers offers a 5-pitch mix, starting with a high 80s fastball that has been up to 90.5 mph. He spins the curveball well at 68-70 mph and also flashes a changeup and slider. He's also shown useful cutter in the 82-84 range. The West Coast right-hander has athleticism in his game and is one of the best pitching prospects across the country still on the board.

9/30/20

One of the top 2023 players to watch for, Frers had a great day all-around at the Fall Open. Lots of room to grow into his 6'1 frame, Frers displayed a simple, strong swing, creating good separation producing an 88mph exit Velo and backspin line drives. On the field, Frers showed the best arm on the infield at 81mph and showed good range and footwork on the infield. With improvement to his hands, Frers has a chance to play up the middle at the next level and be a threat at the plate.

In addition to the above, Nick was also one of the most intriguing arms at the event. Topping out at 86 with his fastball, living 82-85, Frers had the top fastball velocity on the day, impressive for a 2023 arm. Ball comes out of a ¾ slot from a simple delivery, arm unwinds nicely, and the ball jumps out of hand. Curveball was sharp and late moving, sitting around the 70mph mark, and the slider was even better at 73 mph with sharp and late side movement. Changeup fills up his quality four-pitch mix sitting around 74mph; all his off-speed was thrown intently and thrown for strikes. Nick is a talented arm and bat to keep tabs on becoming an outstanding two-way guy in the future.
