Abbotsford Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Brady Turner
West Coast Director

On Monday, February 19th the Prep Baseball British Columbia staff hosted its first showcase of the year with the Abbotsford Preseason ID at Delair Park in Abbotsford, British Columbia. This event featured 40 players from across the province in the 2024 - 2028 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players after an offseason of development, as well as collect updated metrics via our tech partners TrackMan and Blast Motion.

The event also serves as an identifier and qualifier for our Select Series Events such as Future Games (2026), Jr. Future Games (2028/2029), Senior Future Games (2025), West Coast Games (2025/2026) and Best of the West (18U & 15U).

We broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis and Pitching Data Dive. Now, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on five standouts from the event.

Jake Fehr RHP / Sands, BC / 2025

Fehr continues to show us why he is one of the better 2025s in BC. He has one of the best breaking balls on the West Coast. With his ability to spin the ball, the slider spins north of 2450 rpm and has over 20 inches of horizontal break (HB) and 10 inches of induced vertical break (IVB). The fastball sits in the 83-84 mph range that he spins around 2400 rpm. The changeup is another effective offering in which he kills spin and IVB. At 73-75 mph, it averages 1600 rpm, 17.6 inches of HB and just 2.9 inches of IVB. Compared to his fastball that has 14.2 inches of IVB. His ability to spin the ball is unique which adds intrigue to his projection going forward.

Bode Lynch C / RHP / Thomas Haney Secondary, BC / 2027

There was excitement to get a look at Lynch and he came as advertised. Lynch made a statement that he is one of the top 2027s in the province. Lynch impressed staff with his electric arm that showcased well on the mound and behind the plate. Lynch caught some barrels to the pull side and was able to elevate to the left center gap in BP. The Whalley Chief utility man shows promise as a two-way player for the years ahead. Lynch is a must follow in BC’s 2027 class and was a standout at this event even as one of the younger athletes.

Brady Pickering RHP / SS / Yale, BC / 2026

Pickering was a standout arm at the Preseason ID. This 2026 RHP has shown to be a competitor that can generate swing & miss with multiple pitches, keeping hitters off balance. Pickering moves well on the mound and uses his lower body efficiently. As he continues to gain size he could become an effective arm for the Abbotsford Cardinals. Pickering’s combination of sinker and change-up look very similar, but the movement and velocity difference will generate plenty of ground balls for him this season. Keep this 2026 on watch this season as he gears up for what looks to be a bounce back season for the Cardinals.

Dylan Bird SS / RHP / Lord Tweedsmuir, BC / 2027

Bird caught the eyes of our staff with a projectable body at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with the ability to throw multiple pitches with plus movement. His curveball and changeup are both potential strikeout pitches, as they generate OZ chase and swing & miss. On the mound Bird’s delivery was smooth and was able to feel the zone with his FB/CB/CH arsenal. Pitching was Bird’s best shown skillset at this event, but smooth hands and a good arm make him a solid shortstop in BCs 2027 class. At the dish Bird has a quiet swing and showed adjustability in the swing and bat-to-ball ability. Bird is an arm to keep in eyes on as he grows in size going forward and begins to face higher levels in competition.

Jack Redpath SS / 3B / St George’s, BC / 2026

Redpath jumped onto the scene at the Abbotsford Preseason ID, having one of the best overall days. With an athletic frame, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound 2026 really impressed in the box. Working to his pull-side, he utilizes a swing path that allows him to elevate, driving multiple balls off the left-center-field wall and reaching a max exit velocity of 94.1 mph. The athleticism adds bat speed and bat-to-ball in his right handed swing. On the infield, he moves well laterally and has arm utility allowing him to make difficult throws while on the run. The Delta Blue Jays product has made a name for himself and will be someone to follow when the season kicks off.
