Atkinson Memorial: Day 2 Notebook

The 1st Year of the Atkinson Memorial had a wealth of Colorado Baseball talent to watch up and down the front range region. From high profile D-1 commits and potential draft picks to uncommitted players looking to impress in front of the many college and pro scouts at different host sites. Below are some highlights of the 2nd day of the Atkinson Memorial.

The Champions at each level were the following:

18U: Slammers Martin
17U: Rockies Junior Scout Team
16U: Team Colorado Arnold
15U: Pro Swing

+ Slammers Martin wrapped up a very dominant weekend going 4-0 winning the 18U Bracket.. The team, full of 2018 players only, won both games today by a combined score of 38 to 3. Slammers jumped on Cherokee Trail in the first inning scoring 10 runs, highlighted by Justin Olson (Pine Creek) 400+ 3-run bomb. Olson's next at-bat hit a 2 run double giving him 10 RBI's in the first 15 innings of the tournament.  Harris Williams (Denver North) went  4-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's, Brandon Dorighi (Cherry Creek) went 2-3 with 2 doubles, and 2018 Garret Martin (Standley Lake) was also 2-3 and Slammers Martin won 14-2. Game 2 was not much different against the Roughnecks winning 24-1. Luke Zeigler (Valor Christian) pitched 3 solid innings striking out 4, and also had 3 doubles and 5 RBI's in the game. Jake Haze (ThunderRidge) was 3-4 with 2 doubles, and 6 RBI's, and Nick Merone (Rock Canyon) went 2-3 with 3 RBI's.

+ The best pitching matchup of the weekend occurred at Overland in the 18U bracket matching Texas Christian commit James Notary (Broomfield) of the Colorado Rockies Scout Teams against Liam Eddy (Brighton) of Slammers Zavaras. Notary was dominant through 5 shutout innings giving up only 1 hit striking out 7. Eddy was sharp as well for 3 innings, but was the victim of a 2-out error which led to 2 runs for the Rockies. Joel Pierce (Valor Christian) drove in the key run that inning.

+ Cherry Creek had a solid day today in the 18U bracket going 2-0. Game 1 was highlighted by Jimmy Guckenberger (Cherry Creek) who pitche 4 shutout innings striking out 6. Issac Kron was 2-2 with an RBI, and Guckenberger also drove in 2 runs in a 8-0 win over Post 6. In game 2 Cherry Creek beat South Denver Baseball Academy 9-2. Colton Talton (Pueblo County) was 1-2 with and RBI triple, and Will Mitchell was 2-2 with an RBI

+ In a 9-1 win over Diamond club, Slammers Cronican Sam Ireland (Mountain Vista) was 3-4 with a triple, double, and 3 RBI's. Nathan Mitchell (Cherry Creek) threw 3 scoreless innings.

+ In a 9-1 victory at the 18U level over Diamond Club, Team Colorado Bard got a stellar performance from Jake Sansin (Legend) on the mound pitching 4 shutout innings with great fastball command walking just 1 batter. At the plate Hank Bard (Legend) came up with a clutch 2-out  2 RBI single.

+ Slammers Bauer at the 18U level had a solid day on Sunday highlighted by two strong pitching performances. In game one Mathew Ramirez threw a no-hitter against Khaos Gold in a 1-0 victory. In game two Zach Lamari (Strasburg) went 4 shut-out innings in a 8-4 victory over Lightning Gold.

+ In Windsor at the 18U level Slammers Loseke won 10-2 with help from Kyle Harris(Boulder) 2-2 with a HR and Vincon Britton (Arvada West) went  2-3 w/ 2 RBI's
