Colorado Khaos Scout Day Wrap-Up

John Cackowski
Director of Scouting

Prep Baseball Report’s Colorado Khaos Team Scout Day took place Thursday November 2nd at Colorado Khaos Facility. The Colorado Khaos program, led by Scott Horman and Jason Livernois, has been a staple in the Littleton community, traditionally drawing from Heritage, Columbine, Chatfield, and other high schools close to to the Littleton area. The Colorado Khaos Gold team has traditionally been one of the better travel teams in the state. This was the first year for this event. Some strong talent was on display with members of the 2018-2021 classes participating in the event. Prospects came together in a pro-style workout to strut their stuff in front of the PBR scouting staff. Below are some looks at the top players who came out of the event. Below is some quick hits of some players who stood out.

Following is a look at top performances in a number of measurable categories. Click Here for a statistical breakdown of this event.

We will be meeting again to get defensive evals at a later date. All players who attended the event will have video posted on their profile with comments.

Quick HIts

+ 2019 RHP/OF Eric McKnight of Heritage HS, 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, bats and throws right. McKnight impressed offensively and on the mound. Big strong player. Stands tall at the plate, barrel is long through extension. Power potential. 88 mph exit velo off the tee. On the mound was impressive. Fastball sat 87-89, up from 86-88 in PBR Atkinson Memorial Tournament in August. Effortless delivery with more room to grow. High 3/4 arm slot, square to the plate and inline. Consistent lower 90's potential is soon on horizon. Good three-pitch mix. Curve sat 70-71 mph with late 11/5 depth. Good variance on change. Same arm speed as fastball sitting 77-78 mph. One of the top pitchers in the 2019 Colorado class.

+ 2018 Uncommitted OF/3B Jacob Barr of Mullen HS, 5-foot-9, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Steady player who could also fill in up the middle for a team. Swing is level through the zone, gap to gap hitter. Gets better lower half rotation since last time we saw him, might account for his 92 mph exit velo off the tee. Ball jumped off bat this night. Good chemistry player for a club.

+ 2018 Uncommitted SS Arian Jimenez-Quezada of Heritage HS, 5-foot-6, 150 pounds. Bats left and throw right. First time we have gotten a chance to see Jimenez up close. In past games scouted is a very solid middle infielder who could fill in at SS/2B, and if needed play 3B. On defense we have seen him have quick feet, good range, and a quick release across the diamond. At the plate is balanced, and lets the ball get deep in the zone, but has quick enough hands to turn on the baseball. Hands stay inside the baseball. Line-drive, spray hitter. Table setter. Had a 87 mph exit velocity off the tee. Good live round of hitting, strong barrel to the ball.

+ 2018 MIF Uncommitted Victor Lara of Columbine HS, 5-foot-7, 180 pounds. Switch hitting player who has always been able to hit. Strong at both sides of the plate. Doesn't get beat. Balanced, simple approach. Swing is repeatable from both sides. Exit Velos off tee were 84 from both sides. Versatile player who can help at a lot of different positions.

+ 2019 1B/3B Gunnar Kozlowitz of Heritage HS, 6-foot-1, 200 pounds. Bats left throws right. Kozlowitz showed some impressive bat speed in the the live round and off the tee. Kozlowitz has gap to gap power, and could be a force in the Heritage Eagles lineup this spring. Slight uphill swing with good lower half rotation, ball jumps off bat. Produced a 92 mph exit velo off the tee, which was tied for top EV at event. Also showed his versatility catching pitchers at the end of the event. A lot of power potential for Kozlowitz moving forward.

+ 2020 LHP/OF Jimmy Hebenstreit of Heritage HS. 6-foot-2, 170 pounds. Bats and throws left. Could be top LHP pitching prospect in the Colorado 2020 class. Really loved how he attacks the zone. Explosive towards plate with great down angle from high 3/4 arm slot. Great extension to the plate. Everything works. Could be a big time prospect. Fastball sat 79-82 mph but plays faster. Good three-pitch mix. Curve had 12/6 shape at 60-62 mph, and change was thrown at same arm speed as fastball at 72-73 mph.

+ 2018 Uncommitted OF/RHP Ryan Barber of Valor Christian. Bats and throws right. Strong player. Athletic thick frame. Strong wrists. Had good round of hitting in live round. Wants to launch the ball. Swing has uphill path, but when he connects travels a long way. Started for the 4A State Champions last spring in OF. Hit 4 home runs tying for team lead. On the mound lived 80-81 touching 82 from high 3/4 arm slot. Curve was 60-61 mph and change was 67-68 with some fade.

+ 2018 Uncommitted RHP Justin Sperry, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, looked athletic on the mound. Fastball was 80-82 mph with a good 3-pitch mix from high 3/4 arm slot. Curveball was 61-62 mph for strikes and change was 68-70 mph thrown at same arm speed as fastball .

+ 2019 LHP Peter Chronowski, 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. Comes from over the top arm slot. Lands in line then falls off to 3B. Sneaky fastball that lived 81-82, touching 83 mph from 3/4 arm slot. Faster curveball with 2/7 shape at 70-71 mph with late depth away from right handed hitter. Change was 74-75 mph.
