Colorado Underclass Invitational: Outfield Analysis

The 5th Annual Underclass Invitational brought together a collection of some of the top talent in the 2021 & 2022 classes. Over 90 players participated in the event. With the spring season quickly approaching, the players were able to impress with the advancements made throughout the off-season.


Best of the Best: Outfielders

 

ADAM MOSER OF / 2B / FAIRVIEW , CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 188 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate sets up in a balanced stance, with soft short stride, and slow load back with good separation and rhythm. Moser generates gap to gap power with above average bat speed and strength which generated an event best 93 mph exit velocity off a tee. Good hand eye coordination and barrel control. Bat bath is level with good extension. Has a tendency to dive over plate which could hinder ability to get to inside pitch, however in this round Moser the gap to gap power potential by barreling every pitch. In the field had the top arm velo from the outfield group throwing 84 mph. Ran a simulated dry-swing 3.95 home to first time. In past events we have had him at 6.8 for the 60. 

 

 

 

TYSON PALLATT OF / RHP / LAKEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL, CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 165 pounds. Bats and throws right. Compact swing from balanced stance with slight crouch. Head is quiet. Quick hands. Line drive hitter. Does not have as much lift in swing as last time we saw him. Bat path is in hitting zone longer with better extension through the baseball with bottom hand finish. Exit velo for this event was 82, but we have had at 86 mph before. Looks to be trying to make some adjustments at plate to be more complete hitter. Ran a simulated dry-swing home to first at 4.26. We have had him at 6.86 in the 60 in past events. From the outfield arm was 78 mph. Colorado players have not been able to get outside, so arm is still warming up. We have had him at 85 mph from OF last summer. 

 

JORDAN SANDOVAL OF / BRIGHTON , CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 140 pounds. Bats and throws right. Balanced stance stance, knees inside feet. Upper and lower half work well together, and load creates good separation for the quick, good hands he has. Pull side power, but has ability to take outside pitch the other way. Very good extension through the baseball. Solid live round barreling everything. Exit velocity off tee was 85 mph. Raw hitter that just hits. From the outfield threw 77 mph. Ran a simulated with dry swing home to first time at 4.57. 

 

 

 

 

BENJAMIN CARRINGTON OF / RHP / RAMPART, CO / 2022

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 155 pounds. Bats and throws right. Closed, narrow stance to start, balanced, quiet, and bat stays long through the hitting zone. Simple approach. Line drive hitter. Strong live round with solid contact on every pitch. Up the middle with gap to gap power. Exit velocity off a tee was 82 mph, but played faster in live round. In the outfield threw 77 mph. Ran a simulated home to first with dry swing at 4.5. On the mound has an athletic, projectable frame. Short on backside with quick arm. Comes across body a little. Lands inline then falls to 1B. Could benefit from reaching on stride a little more. Fastball lived 71-73 touching 74. CB was 11/5 shape at 63-64 mph thrown at same arm speed. Change was 64-65 thrown for strikes. 

 

 

 

NICK SONG OF / RHP / GRANDVIEW , CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 195 pounds. Bats and throws right. Big frame with natural strength and shows in swing. Balanced stance, slight leg kick and quick hands. Power hitter. Solid live round with gap to gap contact. Produced an 89 mph exit velocity off tee in this event, but we have had at 95 mph last summer. For size moves well in OF and projects as a corner outfielder. Arm velo was 79 mph from short, over the top arm slot. Ran a 4.4 simulated dry swing home to first. 

 

 

 


BEST OF THE REST: LISTED ALPAHBETICALLY

LUKE ALFONSO OF / RHP / FOSSIL RIDGE, CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. Big body and frame. Narrow stance with toe tap stride. Has gap to gap power with simple level swing through the zone. Some power potential. Had good contact through live round with good extension through the baseball and strength in swing. Slightly uphill swing with gap to gap power. Produced one of the top exit velos off tee at 87 mph. From the outfield threw 75 mph from over the top arm slot. Ran a 4.79 simulated dry swing home to first time. On the mound has a deliberant delivery from a high 3/4 arm slot landing closed towards plate. All three pitches thrown at same arm speed. Lands closed Fastball lived 75-76, touching 77. Change had good deviation from FB at 68-69 mph, and Curve has gradual break at 63-65 mph. Alfonso has a lot of projection to be a legit power hitter before he graduates. 

 

 

ELI BOWMAN OF / RHP / BRIGHTON HIGH SCHOOL, CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 6-foot, 165 pounds. Projectable frame. Tall stance with pre-swing movement. Big leg kick start, long load back. Line drive hitter with some pop in bat with strength in swing and could have more power with a little more extension through hitting zone. Bottom hand finish. Solid contact during live round. Produced an 83 mph exit velocity off tee. In the outfield showcased a strong arm at 80 mph. Ran a simulated dry swing home to first at 4.5. On the mound starts square to the mound. Arm wraps back, slight coil in balance point and delivers from over the top arm slot. Fastball lived 80-82 mph thrown for strikes. Curve had 11-5 shape thrown at 63-64. Change had good deviance at 67-68. All three thrown at same arm speed. 

 

 

AARON BRAKEL OF / RHP / BROOMFIELD, CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 5-foot-5, 125 pounds. Bats and throws right. Balanced stance to start with a lot of pre-swing movement. Load is down and back, but gets barrel to ball. Lets ball get deep in hitting zone for oppo approach with a solid live round of hitting barreling with right center power. For size live round showed some power. Ran a 4.56 simulated dry swing home to first time. Threw 70 mph from OF.  On the mound has good direction towards plate. Arm is short on back side. Good arm for size and is quick.  Works fast on mound. Fastball was 75-76 mph touching 77 from over the top arm slot. CB was 63-65 with 12/6 shape. Fast change at 71 mph. Has projection as he grown. 

CONNOR CAMDEN OF / 1B / THUNDER RIDGE, CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 155 pounds. Big frame with more room to fill out. Bats and throws right. Open stance with toe tap stride. Slight uphill swing producing gap to gap power. Developing power. Some pre-pitch movement. Load is slow back. Pull side tendencies with power potential. Slight uphill swing with good extension through the baseball. Produced a 85 mph exit velocity off a tee. Showed some speed running a simulated dry swing 4.25 home to first time. In the outfield comes form an over the top arm slot at 71 mph. Still growing into body. 


CONNOR COONEY OF / LHP / HOLY FAMILY, CO / 2021

Uncommitted, 5-foot-10, 135 pounds. Bats and throws left. Balanced stance with good swing path through hitting zone. Lets ball get deep and utilizes quick hands to get to ball. Solid contact during live round. Bat stays in hitting zone, then has high finish. Good feet. Line drive hitter. Projects to be a high average hitter with up the middle line drive approach. Produced a 82 mph exit velo off the tee, but as he fills in has potential to have above average bat speed. In the OF threw 74 mph from high 3/4 arm slot. Ran a simulated 4 flat dry swing home to first. On the mound has nice loose arm. Not a max effort guy. Arm is quick and from high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball was 74-75 with more to come. Solid mechanic foundation.  All three pitches thrown at same arm speed. Curve and change at same speed at 63-65 mph. Curve has tight spin and was an out pitch. 

 

JADEN HILL OF / LHP / GRANDVIEW , CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 187 pounds. Bats and throws right. Bat really jumps off Hill's bat. In live hitting round showcased good bat speed. Open stance to start, hands a little low, but quick to the ball. Leg kick trigger, and down in time.  Compact, uphill swing which generated power to right and left center. Has the ability to let the ball get deep into hitting zone and drive for power to left center. Showcased an above average arm from OF at 80 mph. One of the better rounds at the event. Ran a 4.3 simulated dry swing home to first time. 

 

 

JONATHAN HOWTON OF / RHP / WINDSOR, CO / 2022

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 136 pounds. Projectable frame. Open narrow stance with longer stride, and slow load. Dives towards ball at contact. Has some power potential, and more room to fill out for sure. Ball has some pop off bat. Extension is long and through baseball. Bottom hand finish. Produced an 84 mph exit velo off tee. From OF threw 72 mph from over the top arm slot and attacks the baseball. Ran a simulated dry swing 4.3 home to first time.  On the mound has a nice loose arm and does a good job using lower half. Comes from 3/4 arm slot. More velo to come. Fastball was 78-79 mph. Can see potential of an upper 80's fastball. Curve was 61-62 with gradual break from 11/5 shape. Change was thrown 64-65 mph. Player to follow. 

ANDREW ISDALE OF / RHP / CHAPARRAL, CO / 2022

Uncommitted. 6-foot, 145 pounds. Bats and throws right. Projectable frame. At the plate has slight crouch loads straight back, and hands are short and quick down to the ball. Medium stride and lunges towards contact. Muscles ball through swing path. Exit velocity was 79 mph. In the outfield has good feet, and short back side arm action at 74 mph. Ran a 4.95 simulated dry swing home to first time. On the mound is short on back side from over the top arm slot. Gets good extension towards the the plate landing inline. Fastball was 75-77 with more to come as he fills out. Curve was 11/5 shape with gradual break at 58-59 mph. Change was a plus pitch at 67-68 mph. Pitches with confidence on the mound. 

 

PRESTON JENNINGS OF / RHP / RAMPART, CO / 2022

Uncommitted. 5-foot-8, 140 pounds. Bats and throws right. Balanced stance, toe tap stride. Load is down and back with longer swing through zone. Pull side power. Swing is quick through zone with slight uphill path. Good extension through the hitting zone. Exit velocity was 79 mph off a tee. In the outfield feet are good, attacks the ball, and arm is long and lose from high 3/4 arm slot. Threw 78 mph from outfield. Ran a simulated dry swing 4.98 home to first time. 

 

 

TOBY JONES OF / 3B / PINE CREEK, CO / 2021

Uncommitted.5-foot-9, 140 pounds. Balanced stance, toe tap stride.  Hands are quick to the ball, line drive hitter, and had solid contact during live round. Could benefit if he stayed through ball a little longer. Produced a 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the outfield is quick to the ball, long arm action from over the top arm slot throwing 73 mph. Good fundamentals. Ran a simulated dry swing home to first time at 4.80. 

 

 

TEAGEN RAE OF / RHP / LUTHERAN , CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 5-foot-8, 155 pounds. Bats and throws right. Some pre-pitch movement. Wide open base stance, toe tap stride. Quick and compact with slight uphill swing path. Hands are short and quick to the ball. Barreled everything during live round. Produced a 84 mph exit velocity off a tee. Could get more there if extends through ball more, but there is bat speed evident. From the outfield displayed a quick glove to hand exchange, and quick arm at 82 mph, one of the top OF velos at the event. Ran a simulated dry swing home to first time at 4.48. On the mound, has slow deliberant delivery, then comes with quick arm through the zone. Fastball lived 77-78 mph. Have had at lower 80's in game in the fall. Generates most of his velo from upper half. Curve was fast with 11-5 shape at 68-69 mph. 

 

 


JOSEPH TAYLOR OF / RHP / PINE CREEK , CO / 2022

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 112 pounds. Bats and throws right. Balanced stance with slight crouch. Displayed quick hands to the ball. Line drive hitter with good swing path. Attacks the baseball with slight uphill swing that gets good extension through the baseball. Produced a 73 mph exit velocity. Can see the potential of more bat speed, just needs to add strength. From the outfield has a long and loose arm and attacks the baseball. Arm velo was 70 mph. Ran a simulated dry swing 4.53 home to first time. In
