Preseason All-State Corner Infield Analysis

Over the course of the next week, PBR Colorado will break down the Preseason All-State event by position.  We began our look with the catchers and outfielders, today we cover the corners. 

 

Ethan Abegg 3B / 2B / Prairie View , CO / 2020

5-foot-6, 185-pound left hand hitting 3B/2B who ran a 7.40 60. Hands load back easy to separation and swing shows some strength and quickness getting to the zone. High finish with some explosion in the hips and uses the lower half well. Exit velocity was 75 mph off the pitch and swing showed some gap to gap tendencies with power potential. . Feet are active on approach, fields out front, showed a quick clean exchange. Arm action was average and throws from a lower three-quarter arm slot at 73 mph. 

 

 

 

Nate Bach 3B / 1B / Boulder , CO / 2020

A 6-foot-1, 170-pound right hand hitting 3B/1B who ran a 7.07 60. Upright slightly open stance, strides in on line, hands are quick to the ball, and showed ability to pull hands in. High two-handed finish and gets the lower half through completely. Exit velocity was 77 mph off the pitch. Feet are active on approach, fields out front, showed a quick clean exchange. Arm action was average and throws from a lower three-quarter arm slot at 75 mph. 

 

 

 

Chad Bila 1B / C / Kelly Walsh, WY / 2019

6-foot-2, 245-pound right hand hitting 1B/C who ran an 8.51 60. Open stance starting slightly crouched. Strides forward and lands on line. Rolls front shoulder close at load with minimal hand movement. Bat path is flat with line drive tendencies and is quick out of the zone. Exit velocity was 83 mph off the pitch. Fields out front and brings to center for clean exchange to a longer arm action throwing from a three-quarter arm slot at 55 mph

 

 

 

Lucas Ericson RHP / 1B / Legend, CO / 2020

6-foot-1, 165-pound left hand hitting 1B/RHP who ran a 7.19 60. Upright slightly open stance, strides in on line, hands are quick to the ball, and showed ability to pull hands in. High finish and gets the lower half through completely. Exit velocity was 79 mph off the pitch. Feet are active on approach, fields out front. Arm action was average and throws from a lower three-quarter arm slot at 74 mph. Tall and fall motion on the mound. Long stride and in-line landing allow him to close ground on the pitch. Arm stays high 3/4 and fastball was 75-77 mph with command in and out. Curve was 66-67 mph with 11/5 shape and change had feel and sink and sat 71-72 mph.

 

 

 

Noah Ghiselli RHP / 3B / Boulder , CO / 2020

5-foot-10, 170-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran a 7.14 60. Upright relaxed stance showing some rhythm in the swing. Hands load back fluid to a slight arm bar. Short to the ball with a flat path and a high finish. Lower half finishes completely and head stays behind the ball on contact. Exit velocity was 86 mph off the pitch.  Showed well defensively. Active feet on approach and nice actions pre and post catch. Got outside the ball and allowed feet and glove to work through it with soft hands. Arm was 67 mph. On the mound he stands tall with some tilt at balance. Good extension out front and stays in-line on the pitch. Arm is over the top and fastball sat 77-79 mph. Curve showed 11/5 shape and was 58-61 mph.  Change had late sink and sat 72-74 mph.

 

 

 

Brycen Hotz 3B / RHP / Monte Vista, CO / 2020

6-foot-2, 185-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran a 7.60 60. Starts with an upright stance with a high leg lift, strides towards the pitcher landing square with hands back in a strong position and a slight arm bar. Hands showed quickness and strength through the zone with an uphill path and uphill finish. Lower half finishes with some aggression and the exit velo was 76 mph off the pitch. Feet were active on approach approaching outside and presenting glove out front with soft hands and a clean exchange. Average arm circle with elite arm speed and velocity at 63 mph. Quick motion on the mound with sink and drive tendencies. Arm is high 3/4 and fastball was 76-77 mph. Curve showed seeping break and sat 62-63 mph and his change had near fastball arm speed and was 66-68 mph.

 

 

 

Hayden Iverson 3B / 2B / Fort Collins, CO / 2020

6-foot-2, 180-pound right hand hitting 3B who ran a 7.08 60. Slightly open athletic stance striding in finishing on line. Hands load back and front arm locks to an arm bar. Swing has some strength and quickness getting through the zone and swing showed pull side tendency. Exit velocity was 83 mph off the pitch. Worked hard with active feet to get in optimal position to field every groundball. Solid glove presentation out front to a clean exchange, short arm action, and showed comfort throwing from multiple arm angles. Infield velocity was 65 mph. 

 

 

 

Chase Olivier 3B / RHP / Highlands Ranch, CO / 2020

6-foot-2, 185-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran a 7.47 60. Open stance with high leg trigger and works hard to get down on time. Displayed some bat speed getting through the zone and has ability to pull hands in when necessary. Has some gap to gap power potential with an exit velo of 82 mph off the pitch. Active feet on approach with solid glove presentation. Clean exchange to a longer arm action throwing from a three-quarter arm slot at 69 mph across the infield. Tall on the mound with a fall to the plate motion. Double taps his glove on his break and arm is over the top and can drop to high 3/4. Fastball was 74-75 mph with straight life. Curve flashed 11/5 break at 63-64 mph and change had late sink at 66-68 mph.

 

 

 

Ricardo Salas 3B / SS / Lakewood High School, CO / 2020

5-foot-7, 150-pound right hand hitting 3B/SS who ran a 6.99 60. Square athletic stance with hands back. Hands have small load back with a slight bat wrap and a simple pick up striding forward landing on line. Bat gets on plane early with line drive tendency and a high finish. Head stays quiet and behind the barrel on contact. Finishes the lower half completely with an exit velo of 74 mph off the pitch. Active feet on approach with solid glove presentation and fields slightly right of center. Clean exchange with a short arm action throwing from a three-quarter arm slot at 70 mph across the infield.

 

 

 

Daniel Thiessen RHP / 1B / Sterling High School, CO / 2020

6-foot-5, 185-pound right hand hitting 1B/Pitcher who ran a 7.11 60. Athletic open stance with a simple stride landing slightly closed. Hands load back, bat gets on plane early with a slight uphill path, and hips rotate completely with some violence. Exit velocity was 85 mph off the pitch. Feet work through the ball, glove presents out front, and quick clean exchange at center. Arm action is a bit longer, but showed some arm speed throwing from a three-quarter arm slot at 74 mph. On the mound he threw from bot the right and left side. Right side is fluid with a drop and drive motion and high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball has some run and sat 77-80 mph. Curve flashed 11/5 break at 64-67 mph and his change had fastball arm speed at 69-72 mph. Left side was max effort with good extension over his front side and square through the pitch. Arm is over the top. Fastball was 73-75 mph.

 

 

 

Thaniel Trumper RHP / 3B / Fossil Ridge HS, CO / 2020

6-foot-2, 165-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran a 7.30 60. Hits from the right side with an athletic square stance. Small leg lift with a stride forward landing on line, hands load back with rhythm, and bat path was flat and stayed through extension. Hips fire with some aggression and swing appeared to be a solid line drive swing with some pull side tendencies. Exit velocity was 84 mph off the pitch. Feet were quiet and approach was direct with soft hands catching it out front. Quick arm throwing from a three-quarter arm slot with an infield velocity of 73 mph. Solid mechanics on the mound, drive hard to the plate on delivery with good arm speed. Arm is high 3/4 with a long finish. Fastball was 81-82 mph with late run. Curve had tight spin and 12/6 shape and was 68-71 mph. Change was 71-72 with sink and near fastball arm speed.

 

 

 

Billy Wall LHP / OF / Ralston Valley, CO / 2020

6-foot-1, 195-pound left hand hitting 1B/LHP who ran a 7.70 60. Open slightly crouched stance. Hands load back and bat is vertical at separation with a pronounced leg lift to stride landing open. Hands are quick and showed some strength through the zone. Bat path is flat with a slight recoil at finish. Lower half finishes completely with some aggression and posted an exit velo of 85 mph off the pitch. Feet work through the ball, glove presents out front, and quick clean exchange at center. Arm action is a bit longer, but showed some arm speed throwing from a three-quarter arm slot at 70 mph. Works quickly on the mound with max effort. Sink and drive motion to the plate and arm sits in a high 3/4 slot. Fastball was 79-80 mph with command away. Curve sweeps across the zone at 64-66 mph. Change was in on the righthand hitter and sat 71-73 mph.
