Q&A with Preseason All-State Participant: Conner Nantkes

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director

Prep Baseball Report Colorado is ready to hit the ground running toward 2016 with two major events.  The Preseason All-State event at Slammers South will take take place on February 28th. Over the coming weeks, PBR Colorado will continue to introduce you to 2016 and 2017 players who have committed to this event.  Continuing our look is No. 10 2017, Conner Nantkes, LHP/1B from Cherokee Trail High School.

PBR:  Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:

Nantkes: As a player I am very passionate and competitive. I will give full effort at all times, and look to help my team win.

PBR:  What would be your dream school to play baseball at?  If you have already committed to play at the next level, why did you choose that particular school?

Nantkes: My dream school is a place where I can compete in the classroom as well as on the field. For this reason schools like Stanford, Duke, UCLA and other academically prestigious schools would be a place I could see myself.

PBR:  What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?

Nantkes: My best asset has to be my ambition that drives me work hard on the field, off the field and in the classroom.

PBR:  What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?

Nantkes: The best advice I've received is from my dad, which is to be a bulldog on the mound. Both when batting and pitching I look to win every match up. Even though that's not realistic the mindset is helpful.

PBR: What does your off-season routine look like to prepare for the upcoming season?

Nantkes: During the off-season I work out 5-6 days a week to stay in shape and get stronger. I also start an arm care program and get to throwing during the winter to make sure my arm is in shape for season.

PBR:  What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?

Nantkes: My superstitions can change almost weekly. Last year my biggest superstition was that I had to wear blue and orange socks when pitching, and green socks when playing in the outfield. I'm not sure what my superstition will be for this year.

PBR:  What are your goals for:

This Season: Win a state championship

Two Years:  Be committed to play division 1 baseball

Four Years: Be contributing to my college team and helping them win games in any way I can
