Team Colorado Scout Day Wrap Up

John Cackowski
Director of Scouting

Prep Baseball Report’s Team Colorado Scout Day took place Saturday October 28th at Bardo's Diamond Facility. This was the first year for this event. Some strong talent was on display with members of the 2019-2023 classes participating in the event. Prospects came together in a pro-style workout to strut their stuff in front of the PBR scouting staff. Below are some looks at the top players who came out of the event.

Murphy Gienger SS / RHP / Douglas County HS, CO / 2019

6-foot-3, 185 pounds. Bats and throws right. Lanky, athletic SS. At the plate ball jumps off bat. Slightly uphill with good extension through ball. Gienger registered a 91 mph exit velo off the tee. Has gap to gap power. Centered everything in live round. At SS had good range to both sides. Good feet. Good glove to hand exchange. 81 mph across the diamond with accuracy. On the mound comes from different arm slots. From high 3/4 arm slot was 81-83 with fastball. Curve was 68-69. Looked to have more slider like action. Change was 72-73. Will drop down. When he does fastball was 79-80, and he threw a slider that was 72-73 mph with late depth. Ran a 4.02 home to first time on dry-swing. Solid player in Colorado.

Bryce Parsons OF / 3B / Regis Jesuit, CO / 2020

5-foot-11, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Slight crouch at plate with leg kick. Has bat speed. Hands are quick to the ball, slight uphill path. Good extension through the ball with both hands. Has power good potential. 93 mph exit velo off the tee. Fundamentally sound shortstop. Arm velo was 79 mph across the diamond. Ran a 4.2 home to first off a dry swing. Have had him at a 6.9 60 in past events.

Kaleb Woltz RHP / 1B / Pueblo West, CO / 2020

6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Bats and throws right. Future power pitcher on the mound. 3/4 arm slot. Fastball jumps out of hand. Sat 83-84 mph. Throw for strikes. Change was same arm speed as fastball between 70-71 mph. Curveball was 64-67 mph with 11/5 shape. Has raw power at the plate. Pull tendencies. Exit velo was 93 mph off the tee. Bottom hand finish. Strong wrists and forearms.

Jack Sletten OF / RHP / Regis Jesuit HS, CO / 2019

6-foot, 190 pounds. Bats and throws right. Thick, strong player. Strong forearms. Loads down and back, slightly uphill swing. Good extension through the baseball. Registered a 91 mph exit velocity. Confident looking player. On defense arm was 80 mph from OF. Versatile player.

Tony Castonguay C / 3B / Grandview , CO / 2020

5-foot-11, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. In what is shaping up to be a strong Colorado class for catcher, Castonguay is at the top of the list. Has solid bat speed through the zone. Slight crouch, wide stance. Really lifts and separates. Gets most out of swing. Attacks the ball. Good lower half rotation. Produced a 89 mph exit velo off the tee. Behind the dish strong receiving skills, and strong arm. Was 81 mph down to 2B with 1.98 to 2.0 pop-times. Arm action a little longer but makes up with strong arm. Ran a a 4.44 home to first off a dry swing.

Brady Renck 2B / SS / Longmont, CO / 2019

5-foot-11, 145 pounds. Bats left and throws right. What really stands out with Renck is his defensive skills. Smooth in field, soft hands. Quick release. Makes it look easy. 75 mph across the diamond. Line drive hitter from left side. Still developing strength. His hands are quick, and short to the ball with slightly uphill swingpath. 79 exit velocity off the tee. Ran a 4.15 home to first time off dry swing.

Gabe Atkins OF / RHP / Rock Canyon, CO / 2020

5-foot-8, 128 pounds. Bats and throws right. Still growing, we liked Atkins poise on the mound. Attacked zone with strikes with a loose arm from high 3/4 arm slot and solid mechanics. Fastball was 72-73 mph, but had a nice 3-pitch mix with a 60-61 mph curve, and a 62 mph change.
