Underclass Invitational Preview

Director of Scouting

The Prep Baseball Report’s Underclass Invitational will take place this Sunday January 31st at the Slammers South Facility Englewood, Colorado. This will be the second year of the event. Underclass prospects from the 2018 and 2019 classes will come together in a pro-style workout to strut their stuff in front of the PBR scouting staff.

Let’s take a look at this year’s crop of underclassmen currently registered. All players are currently uncommitted.

2018 prospects Tanner O'Tremba (Cherry Creek), Dalton Chandler (Lamar), Jordan Medina (Highlands Ranch), Luke Ziegler (Valor), Nick Merone (Rock Canyon), and Noah Kuzma (Valor) are six of the top ten players in the 2018 class who will all be in attendance.

OF/RHP Tanner O'Tremba, the No. 1 ranked player in Colorado’s 2018 class, at 6-0, 210 pounds, is already a strong physical pitcher and outfielder who is still growing into his body. O'Tremba has reached 88 mph on multiple occasions in games we have seen him play last spring as a freshman. O'Tremba impressed last summer at our Top Prospect Games event running a 6.87 60, and registering a 97 mph exit velocity off a tee.

Lamar RHP Dalton Chandler is the No. 2 ranked 2018 player in the state. Chandler impressed PBR at our Top Prospect Games event last August showcasing a 85 mph fastball in a very projectable 6-foot-4, 190 pound frame.

Highlands Ranch Jordan Medina, ranked No. 3, and Valor's Luke Ziegler ranked No. 4, showed strong skills at our Top Prospect Game event last summer as well. Medina throws 85 mph off the mound, has a sub 2.0 pop-time as a catcher, and registered a 90 mph exit velo off the tee. Ziegler is very versatile and projectable with a 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame showing strong skills at 3rd, on the mound, and at the plate in our Top Prospect Games.

Several Top 20 2018 players will also be in attendance including Nick Merone MIF (Valor Chirstian, No 7) MIF,  Noah Kuzma C (Valor Christian, No. 10), 1B Ryan Hutchinson (Heritage, No. 11) MIF Jake Haze (ThunderRidge, No. 13) RHP/1B Zac Dammel (Highlands Ranch HS, No. 16) and RHP Josh Thompson (Highlands Ranch, No. 20),

With over 60 players registered, there will be several unranked prospects sure to impress and shake up the 2018 class rankings. We also have over 25 2019 prospects we will get a chance to see for the first time.  Click Here to view the complete roster for this Sunday’s event.

Underclass prospects who did not receive an invite to this event can still get in front of the PBR Scouting Staff this spring, summer, and fall. Schedule will be posted end of February.

Showcase analysis and new rankings will be posted after the event.
