Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

Saturday June 23rd at Henley Field in Lakeland, FL, the top underclass high school prospects ranging from the 2020-2022 classes participated in the 2018 Florida Underclass Games which is one of the premier scouting event for the 2018 summer season. With a talented roster on hand, players participated in a pro-style workout followed by two ten inning games.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will breakdown each position through stats, report, video, and more. Positions will be broken down by: outfielder, corner infielder, middle infielder, catcher, pitcher only and two-way players. This is followed by top overall prospects and Future Games and Jr Future Games invitations.Today we take a look at the corner infielders.

Brenden Vern SS / 3B / George W. Jenkins, FL / 2020

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 178 pounds he has a strong, athletic frame. Offensively, he works this rhythm and a leg kick trigger. Clears the backside well with loose hands. A simple, repeatable swing that hands natural leverage. The hands work independently and shows potential to have above average hit tool. The athleticism also plays well defensively. Quick first step, while working under control. Hands funnel into the frame and could see being an above average second baseman as well as the ability to play short and third.

Ryne Guida 1B / 3B / Homeschooled, FL / 2020

Uncommitted. Big bodied, 6-foot-1, 220 pound first baseman whose bat will be what carries him. Had an exit velocity of 97 mph and showed above average power in BP and game play. The ball jumps off his barrell. The swing has some length at times, however he was able to get his foot down early and be on time during this look. Loud contact to both gaps in game. The profile is first base only, but the bat has real power potential to have that profile work.

Devon Spicer 1B / 3B / Sea Breeze, FL / 2021

6-foot, 235 pounds who moves well defensively for a big, stocky frame. Could work with some more rhythm, but would expect to continue to lean out as he matures and rhythm will improve as there is some lightness on his feet. Offensively, the right handed hitter has quick hands and twitchiness in the swing. He could get into the strong lower half and access more power, but the present strength and bat speed generated an 88 mph exit velocity. The bat is a tool to follow with power potential in the future.

Tate Worrell 3B / OF / Columbia, FL / 2020

A strong 6-foot-1, 190 pounds. The right handed hitter works with a small leg kick. He has present strength, could clear the back side better, but there is strength and has ability to access more strength. The present bat speed and strength translated to 90 mph exit velocity and can see there being power potential. Defensively, he moves well and hands work. The physicality plays at third, the arm will need to improve, and the bat has power potential to follow.

Hal Turner 1B / RHP / Charlotte , FL / 2020

6-foot-2, 195 pounds he ran a 7.68 60 yard dash. Defensively, the hands works out in front, could improve first step quickness, but shows solid defensive actions. Offensively, he has a simple, repeatable swing. There is some present strength and was on the barrell consistently. Exit velocity of 82 mph.

Blake D'Arville 3B / RHP / Bishop Moore, FL / 2020

5-foot-10, 165 pound infielder. Offensively, while there is some steepness in the path, he showed present barrell awareness. This translated to the game where he had a pair of singles. His exit velocity is 81 mph. Defensively, he is light on his feet and shows some lateral agility. He topped out at 70 mph across the infield.
