Team Florida was represented by 25 of the top uncommitted players in the state for the 2019 Future Games held at Lakepoint Sports Complex. Florida would go 2-1 on the weekend following an impressive day one of workouts. Today we take a quick look at the players who attended and how they performed at the top uncommitted event in the country.

A trio of 2021 left handed pitchers who performed well were Carsten Finnvold, Dominic Castellano and Ashton Fedorek. The trio all sat in the 82-84 mph range with the fastball with some armside run and kept hitters off balance with a slider and changeup, while commanding the strike zone with all pitches. Finnvold showed a true three pitch mix with a well above average changeup. Castellano attacked hitters and has present feel to pitch and showed an above average curveball, while Fedorek shows a very quick arm and got swing and miss on his fastball. Left-hander Bradley Hodges was one of three 2022s in attendance and worked 82-85 mph and shows a feel to pitch with a high ceiling on the mound.

The right-handers did their part as well on the week. Cameron Clines has a very projectable frame and sat 87-88 mph with his fastball and quick arm action while staying low in the zone both outings. Fisher Jameson is another projectable athlete who showed a clean arm action with a fastball at 85-88 mph and a slider that flashed above average. Sebastian Martinez worked 83-86 mph with a heavy fastball and commanded the zone in his outings with all three pitches.

The infield was led by Connor Wilt, a two-way player who pitched well sitting mid 80’s and got quick outs on the mound, got multiple hits in the three game set, all while playing a quality first base with solid movement around the bases. The left-handed hitter showed an aggressive, whippy swing with bat speed and power potential. The middle infield was led by Jake Mummau, who made some stellar plays defensively, showing great glove work and hands. The left-handed hitter consistently found the barrel with solid contact that collected several hits and turning around 92 and 93 mph fastballs.  Joseph Phan also had a pair of hits and RBI’s with great barrel awareness through all the games and also moved well defensively. Sebastian Burgos also showed well defensively in both workout and game. He showed a compact and level swing offensively.

The corner infielders made themselves well known on day one as they stood out physically and proceeded to show well throughout the week.  Damian Goulart really stood out with his simple approach and physical frame, as he is an above average defender at third and showed present bat speed with power potential.

Brett Blair really stood out physically and athletically as he ran a 6.87 60 yard dash, had a 92 mph exit velocity and 6-foot-2, 205 pounds. There is present strength and a ton of upside from Blair. Cole Russo might have been one of the more impactful left-handed hitters in attendance. While the results didn’t come in the game play, he showed his quiet, simple approach with well above average bat speed and ability to drive the baseball from gap to gap. William Hagen would show well at first all week as well. Above average defender and was on the barrel with multiple hits and continued to show his hit ability with a simple swing and advanced approach.

The outfield was also covered in talent. Jack Cue is a very high ceiling athlete who ran a 6.88 60yard dash, was 87 mph from the outfield and had a 93 mph exit velocity while producing multiple hits and playing solid defense. Dylan Bowen, the second 2022 on the team, showed strongly in the workout running a 6.77 60 yard dash and had a 96 mph exit velocity while also recording a single in the game and showing the big power potential throughout the weekend in BP. Aaron Saltsman had our fastest 60 with 6.75, best velo from the outfield with 91 mph, and also barreled balls in games. Saltsman is an extremely physical, strong athlete who has an extremely high ceiling. Justin Quintana is a stocky and strong outfielder and showed his well above average bat speed and overall one of the most consistent BPs as well as running a 6.88 60 yard dash. Tyler Gerteisen is a physical left-handed hitter with power potential that he showed over the week. AJ Nessler, the third 2022 showed his simple swing with feel for the barrel all week as well. Clayton Hodges wraps up the outfielders and was another 6.98 runner, 89 mph from the outfield and 91 mph exit velocity. He has all around tools and took one of the loudest rounds of BP on the final day. Overall, the outfield group may have the most athleticism and some of the highest ceilings on Team Florida.

The catchers were led by utility player Broedy Poppell who not only stood out defensively, but offensively. Behind the plate he uses he present athleticism and shows feel to receive, block and throw. He also made several plays in the infield. Offensively, the switch hitter has a simple swing with above average bat speed from both sides and showed this with a hard hit triple off of one of the top 2022 arms in the country. Jordan Jerkins is a physical, athletic catcher with a high motor and high ceiling while Joshua Steidl showed solid defensive actions and a whippy left-handed swing that produced a single and consistent hard contact. Overall, Team Florida showed not only tools across the board, but a group of players whose tools translated or played up during the games.
