Central Florida Play Hard Spotlight: Riley Wash

Riley Wash

The Central Florida Play hard showcase brought out a very good crop of young catchers this past weekend at the South Orange Sports complex. One of the top catching prospects was 2017 C Riley Wash (Lake Mary Prep, FL). Wash is 6-foot-1, 175 pounds and has a lean, projectable body with a lot of upside. He had been at a previous PBR event this fall and was impressive. However, this past weekend we saw a lot of physical growth resulting in more arm strength and a lot more pop in his bat. The arm was above average. He was throwing downhill to second base with a loose, live arm action. The ball really jumps out of his hand. He showed good hands and receives well. His feet work well and stay under him. At the plate, he has a good base, gets a good separation for his load, and gets a leg kick for his stride. He has a nice, loose bat path and hits consistent line drives. He stays inside the ball well and drives the ball to all fields. He also showed good strength and quickness with good bat speed. His exit velocity was one of the top ones at the showcase at 91 mph. He has an aggressive approach and attacks the ball. The body is starting to fill out and will continue to. As it does, the tools will continue to develop. It was nice to see Wash’s progress and will be exciting to continue to monitor his development as a player. He should make a nice backstop for a college program.
