De Sedas Impresses In Preseason Opener

Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

In front of a crowd of roughly 50 professional scouts, and with alumni and current Cleveland Indian Francisco Lindor in attendance, Montverde rolled to a 12-0 win over Avante Garde Academy. Those scouts were there to see a player very similar to that of Lindor in 2018 MIF Nander De Sedas. De Sedas did not disappoint either. He was extremely impressive from both sides of the plate during batting practice prior to the game. He has an advanced approach from both sides, spraying balls from gap-to-gap and showing power from both sides. He has above average offensive tools, though a slightly better hit tool from the left side and slightly better power tool from the right. He showed patience during the game, drawing multiple walks and also drove a single up the middle when he did get a pitch to hit. De Sedas will be closely watched all season as the well rounded toolset will lend him the opportunity to go day one in the 2018 MLB Draft.

Although, De Sedas is not the only talented senior for Montverde. Louisville recruit, 2018 RHP Kerry Wright threw all five innings for the Eagles. Wright has a big, strong frame with athletic bloodlines. There is a lot to like in the present arm strength and room to protect growth with more extension and use of the lower half. Wright worked mostly 88-92 touching a few 93 mph with his fastball. He also showed some tight spin on a short slider at 79-82 mph.

A player to also follow was one who actually didn't play in the game. 2021 shortstop Justin Colon really stood out pre-game. He's also a switch hitter with an advanced approach and natural leverage. He looks the part with an athletic frame and the actions to match. Looks to have plus defensive actions and will be one to follow.
