Tampa, FL- In pool play of the Berkeley Prep Invite, the Carrollwood Day Patriots took on the Hillsborough Terriers in a game highlighted by a stand out day at the plate for 2019 OF Terence Doston (Hillsborough HS, FL) who went 3-for-3 and drove in two to help pace the Terriers offense. 2017 RHP Patrick Puentes (Hillsborough HS, FL) turned in a strong outing on the mound and earned the win by scattering three hits, striking out five, and allowing only one run in five innings. The Patriots managed to get a run on the board in the top of the fifth and sixth, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Terriers cruised to a 6-2 victory.

The Terriers also showed the power in their lineup from the 3 and 4 spot as 2017 1B Tim Elko and 2017 3B Nick Romano both homered to drive in a combined three runs. Elko’s two-run home run came in the first inning on a ball that was crushed and easily cleared the center-field wall. The Mississippi recruit also made a couple of tough plays going back on the ball while playing first base. Romano’s solo shot came in the bottom of the fifth that also went over the center-field wall as the St. John’s River State recruit has continually shown juice in his bat and the ability to drive the ball.

2017 OF/RHP Jarrod Cande (Hillsborough HS, FL) also had a solid day at the plate as the Santa Fe JC recruit went 2-for-4 with two triples and flew around the base paths. On the defensive side, Cande displayed a good first step and the ability come in on the ball while playing center. 2017 SS Ryan Romano (Hillsborough HS, FL) went 1-for-4 with a double.

For the Patriots, 2018 OF/LHP Frank Furey went 1-for-2 with an RBI double along with 2018 OF Grant Walford who went 1-for-3 with an RBI. 

With the win, the Terriers moved to 17-4 on the year and are scheduled to take on Berkeley Prep on April 27^th at 7:30pm. The Carrollwood Day Patriots fell to 16-8 on the season and will look to bounce back April 27^th at 4pm.
