Draft League Spotlight: Mason Studstill

Player: Mason Studstill
Position: RHP

School: FGCU

Studstill turned down the Indians as a 22nd-rounder out of high school in 2016 in favor of his commitment to Miami, where he logged one appearance as a freshman before transferring to FGCU in ‘18 and subsequently emerging as one of the more successful pitchers in school history. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound righty’s four-pitch mix is headlined by a low-90s fastball with late riding life that allows Studstill to get outs up in the zone. His go-to secondary offering is a 79-81 mph slider that he throws with depth and a short, tight break, and he’ll mix in a more traditional curveball with top-to-bottom shape to give hitters a conflicting look. A low-80s changeup gives Studstill a fourth pitch, though it’s also his least-thrown. He has solid command of his entire arsenal, along with a knack for how to navigate a lineup and get outs.
