The Florida High School Athletic Association has announced that opening day of the 2019 season will commence on Feb. 25. Programs were allowed to begin practicing in an official capacity on Jan. 28, meaning it's time for the PBR Florida staff to break down the high school baseball scene in the state in the countdown to the first pitch thrown in 2019.

Our staff sent out a preseason questionnaire to the head coaches across the state. Leading up to opening day, we'll be publishing their responses. These team preview posts are here to provide for you a more detailed look at the program, with some first-hand insight from the head coach, too.

SEASON SNAPSHOT

After a 14-10 regular season and an early first round exit in the state playoffs in 2018, the Eagles are posied to make some noise in 2019. With the return of six postion players and five pitchers, including six starters from last season, Coach Eric Leitner has a strong core to build around. The pitching staff will be manned by the two-pronged attack of RHP Tyler Vermillion (College of Charleston signee) and OF/RHP AJ Shaver (Florida State commit). The right-handed hitting Shaver is one of the top prospects in the state and will be a major factor in all facets of the Eagles' game. Utility-player Jason Brackman will fill in all the gaps in the infield as well as provide his services on the mound. Look for South Lake to challenge for a District title.
