FL 2017 Draft Spotlight: Chris Seise

By Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

The standout shortstop has played solid defense up the middle in multiple outings this spring showcasing a quick first step, soft hands, and a strong arm across the diamond. He shows easy, athletic actions with enough range and arm to stay at short. Offensively Siese’s tools have always been impressive, running in the 4.0-4.1 down the line on a consistent basis. Seise has become much more consistent offensively this spring, with the swing noticeably shorter through the zone with less swing and miss. He is balanced, with a strong lower half and power potential from gap-to-gap, consistently driving the ball to right center, with above average power potential.. Overall, the tools have always been present with Seise, but the overall consistent play thus far through the spring has him on the rise.

Scouting Report

03/31/17 - Seise has become much more consistent offensively this spring, with the swing noticeably shorter through the zone with less swing and miss. He is balanced, with a strong lower half and power potential from gap-to-gap. Defensively, he showed plenty of range, with easy actions, soft hands and an above average arm. He shows all of the tools to be a high pick come June and continues to rise with the consistent, impressive performances.

10/23/16- Central Florida recruit. Coming off an impressive weekend at the Florida Diamond Club, he continued to show his high end tools off. He has an athletic and projectable frame. A quick first step, good hands and an above average arm. The bat has previously been a question, but is showing the ability to be more consistent with a shorter swing and some power potential.

10/16/16- Central Florida recruit. The athletic 6-foot-2, 180 pound shortstop had one of the more impressive all around performances of the weekend. Offensively, he shows a lot of quick twitch actions and short swing. He creates leverage and gap-to-gap power, with above average bat speed and a feel for the barrel. The swing has continued to improve and was very consistent, with a better approach and consistently short swing. Defensively, he showed advanced actions at short with the ability to range both to his forehand and backhand to make plays. He has plenty of arm to stick at the position along with a very quick transfer. He also showed his athleticism with a 4.47 home to first time and a 6.65 60. The tools have been there, but they are really translating into game play. He played with confidence both at the plate where he had two triples to center field and multiple plays at short. Will be extremely interesting to see if and how he continues to progress.

5/10/16- Central Florida commit who stands at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds with a lean, athletic, rangy, and projectable frame. Loose actions all over the field. He is ranked 41st in Florida and 126th overall. He has soft, quick hands in the infield and plus range that allows him to cover a lot of ground. Advanced arm strength and he can throw from multiple angles. At the plate he is relaxed, upright, and gets a separation and hand trigger for his load. He gets into a strong hitting position and has good bat speed. He has some length in his swing and a nice plane through the zone. He has the body and tools to become a 2017 draft.

3/17/16 - Central Florida commit. 6-foot-2, 175 pound short stop with a loose lean live athletic projectable body. Loose quick infield actions with soft quick hands. Good first step quickness with plus range. Shows an average arm with routine plays but went to his right and had to hurry the throw and showed a plus arm with good carry. Has a chance to stay at that position. Loose quick bat. Stays inside ball well. Occasionally gets out front on off speed stuff. Has good raw power in BP. Didn’t get a lot of results tonight but lined out hard to second baseman and grounded out and ran 4.25 to first base. Could become a 2017 draft.

2/12/16 - Central Florida commit. 6-foot-2, 175 pound infielder with a lean live athletic projectable body. Quick infield actions with soft quick hands and an average arm. Enough to stay at the position. Good infield instincts but needs to take better angles to balls to give him a better chance to throw hitters out. Very athletic kid. Looks like an above average runner. Loose quick bat with good hand eye. Lacks physical strength right now, but that will come with physical maturity. Hustles. Plays with energy. Went 2-3 with a SB.
