The 2017 Summer Trials took place June 28th at Lake Brantley High School. This event consisted of players from the 2018-2021 classes, all of which took part in a 60 yard dash, pro-style workout, batting practice and a bullpen for pitchers. Today we break down the 2020 and 2021 graduates in attendance

Wesley Luttfring C / RHP / Apopka, FL / 2020

Quick twitch, athletic catcher with strength for his age. Behind the plate he was around the bag with a 2.2 pop time. Occasionally would see his arm will lag behind and have to catch up which caused some inaccuracy. Offensively, Wesley’s hands were quick to the ball but occasionally showed a steep swing. On the mound his athletic frame and quick arm showed room for growth and velo jump. Sat 79-81 mph with his fastball and good command of the three pitches.

Kelsen Johnson C / SS / Newsome, FL / 2021

Shows athleticism and twitchy actions for age. Behind the plate, his hands work well and shows arm strength. The footwork is sound, the transfer can improve and the slo is a bit low, but was still able to have pop times in the 2.1-2.2 range that will continue to improve greatly. In the infield, shows a good first step with sounds actions and soft hands. Similar low slot that works better in the infield. Shows a lot of defensive tools that project. Offensively, he has a simple rhythm trigger with quality load and separation. Aggressive through the zone with above average bat speed for his class. Also shows a feel for the barrel. The swing is simple and short, will have ability to consistently make hard contact. A lot of projectable tools all-around

Jonathan McMath LHP / 1B / Nature Coast Technical, FL / 2020

Big, young left hander has long arms and legs with more room to grow. Sat 77-78 with his fastball with good command. Arm action starts long but seems to shorten before delivery. Could see improvement in velo by extending his arm action and more use of his lower half. Breaking ball had big loopy break with tight spin and showed good command. Defensively, showed a strong arm by using his lower half which proves there is more in the tank on the mound. He had quick feet but needs to stay under control. At the plate he was able to make adjustments from round to round to use the whole field. Will need to work on leveling path of his swing but shows good bat speed.

Alex Haire OF / RHP / Berkeley Prep, FL / 2020

An athletic and twitchy outfielder, he has a lot of tools that currently play well and also project well. Ran a 7.22 60 yard dash. Actions work well in the outfield. Rangy, come through the ball wall. Showcased a strong arm, topping out at 88 mph, with accurate, low throws with carry. Offensively, the right-handed hitter has good rhythm in his setup with a simple load and get quality separation. There is some steepness in the path, but showed quality  bat to ball skills with a feel for the barrel and a short quick swing.

Blake Dincman C / OF / North Florida Christian, FL / 2021

One of the younger players in attendance, he showed sound defensive action. Strong receiver for his age, hands works and blocked and moved well. Throws were accurate and ranged from 2.2-2.3 and will improve as he becomes stronger and improves foot quickness. Offensively, he shows above average bat speed for his class. Has a strong, balanced lower half that he uses well. A slightly uphill path and stocky frame with strength should result in gap-to-gap power as he continues to grow and get stronger.

Sebastian Burgos SS / 2B / Osceola, FL / 2021

Defensively, Sebastian has the ability to become a plus defender with age. Hands and feet worked well together with a smooth transfer. Arm was accurate and will strengthen with as he grows. Showed above average range with twitchy actions the project. Offensively, he showed quick hands with bat speed and ability to use the whole field. He gets good use from a strong, balanced lower half. A lot of twitch tools and feel for the barrel should project well as he continues to grow and become stronger.

Dustin Low SS / RHP / Palm Harbor University, FL / 2020

The SS/RHP has an athletic frame and sound defensive action in the infield. Offensively, the right-handed hitter has a level bath through the zone. There is present bat to ball skills and showed the ability to drive balls gap-to-gap. On the mound, he shows a simple delivery and lands consistently in line down the mound. The fastball ranged from 72-76 while also mixing in a curveball at 64-66 and a changeup at 71 mph.
