Flanagan Rolls to 10-1 Win behind Frank Gonzalez

Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

In what was a close game early, a big fifth and sixth inning for Flannagan led to a 10-1 victory in their first game of the year and he nightcap of the Falcon Challenge. The game was dominated by the uncommitted 2018 RHP Frank Gonzalez of Flannagan. Gonzalez has a proportionally athletic frame and threw from a high 3/4 slot. He has a loose arm and despite working mostly 83-85 mph with the fastball, it looks like much  more is to come as he learns to stay tall over the backside and he continues to add strength. The fastball played higher, getting quite a few swing and misses. He also showed a feel for a 73-75 mph slider and a 76 mph changeup. Gonzalez would go six innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out eight batters.

Flanagan would take advantage of four walks and a hit-batter combined with timely hitting. Tyler Evans would set the tone in the leadoff spot, going 2-2 with two hard hit singles, a hit-by-pitch and an intentional walk. Tyler Epstein and Miguel Useche would both add two-run home runs, while Jordan Rodriguez would add a RBI double in the 10-1 win for Flannagan.
