Florida Classic Day Three Scout Blog

The 2020 PBR Florida Classic kicked off Friday, July 3rd at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, The event features teams from the 16u and 17u age groups. Each team is guaranteed four games with championships on Monday.
Throughout the weekend, we will have a scout blog for each day. These scout blogs are notes on some of the players that stood out to the PBR Florida scouts. Take a look at the Day Three Scout Blog.
Day Three Scout Blog
Henry Cone RHP / 3B / Brenham, TX / 2021Cone has a lean, projectable frame. He showed a quick arm and fastball worked 88-90 topping at 91 mph. Struggled with some command and his offense gave some long innings, but there is a lot to like in the present arm action and overall upside.

Kadien Dean SS / 2B / George Jenkins, FL / 2021Rankings StateRank: 138 / POS: 29
Athletic two way guy that has been an offensive threat this tournament. This time, he hops on the mound and strikes out four in two clean innings of work. Bit of a deceptive crossfire delivery with a fastball up to 82 with late armside ride.

Leo Diaz C / OF / Oakleaf, FL / 2022The big, strong right handed hitter has done nothing but hit balls hard all weekend. Stocky frame, the strength plays as he creates above average bat speed while staying compact through the zone. He is aggressive with quick hands and overall hit and power potential.

Jackson Edwards SS / RHP / Atlantic Coast , FL / 2021Athletic actions at SS, above average speed. Going 2-3, four RBI today with 3B. Short/compact swing, positive body momentum to ball, hands staying inside.

Wyatt Fordham 3B / RHP / Plant City , FL / 2023Fordham came in relief and showed confidence through some tough situations. Stocky frame coming from a high 3/4 arm slot with whippy action. Attacking hitters and pitching to contact at 77-80 mph.

Alexander Haire OF / RHP / Berkeley Prep, FL / 2020Rankings StateRank: 123 / POS: 26
High instinct gamer with above average athleticism. The uncommitted 2020 continues to hit wherever we see him. Quick hands at the plate and the patience to let the ball travel. Two hits back the other way including a triple deep in the right center gap.

James Hankerson 1B / Berkeley Prep, FL / 20236-foot-3 advanced large frame for age. Athletic, confident actions in the box. Above average strength in hands showing quick bat speed, with natural lift taking a ball out to RF for a no doubt HR.

Hayden Henry C / RHP / Bartram Trail , FL / 2021Athletic 6-foot, 180 pound frame. Quiet bat who continues to show power potential as he launched a grand slam to left center.

Wyatt Jenkins SS / 2B / Mckeel Academy , FL / 2023Former Jr Future Gamer continues to mature and add physicality to his frame. Quiet and simple approach at the plate. Gap-to-gap hitter who consistently stays on the barrel.

Justin Montanez OF / RHP / Nature Coast Tech, FL / 2021Montanez has a strong, stocky and athletic frame. He has been on the barrel all weekend and had a pair of triples today. Present bat speed and strength with feel to hit and gap to gap power.

Cooper Nelson RHP / SS / East Lake, FL / 2020Rankings StateRank: 126 / POS: 39
Nelson got the start again for the Roos after only throwing one inning yesterday. He has a long, live arm coming from a ¾ arm slot. Fastball works 88-92 with late life. Above average slider and curveball to add to his arsenal. Nelson struck out seven in five innings of work.

Layton Perry RHP / Episcopal, FL / 2021Perry is a competitive strike throwing RHP, 80% strike percentage this weekend. Works up tempo, reaches balance point with consistent release point. Throws all 3 pitches for a strike. Commands FB 84-86 in/away, CH 77-78 arm side run/fade. SL 72-74, consistent true left to right action in the zone.

Michael Petite SS / OF / Palm Bay , FL / 2023We have written up Petite plenty this weekend, but the overall athleticism was on display today. He played every position on the field and shows a natural ability and feel. The raw tools are extremely high across the board and there is present feel with upside. May have some of the most upside in the 2023 class.
