Connor MoffattThe 7th inning started the same as most others last night for George Washington, No. 7 in the most recent PBR Class AAA Elite Eight team rankings. Nitro freshman standout Levi Kelly registered his 14th and 15th strikeouts of the evening to set down the first two hitters of the final frame. The Wildcats, the top ranked Class AAA team in the current Elite Eight rankings, appeared headed to a 3-1 win until the wheels fell off.

Three walks, a double by Ty McClanahan, and a single by Josh Petit tied the game. Connor Moffatt (top right), a California Institute of Technology commit, then doubled to drive in two to give George Washington a 5-3 lead.

Jeff WongKelly went 6.2 innings on the evening yielding five hits, five earned runs and seven walks to go along with his aforementioned 15 strikeouts. Prior to the eventful two-out rally in the 7th Kelly had given up just two hits and one run. The last out simply never came, as the Wildcats turned to Eddie Flores to record the final out of the 7th.

Jeff Wong (bottom right) went the distance for the Patriots giving up six hits and two earned runs, while striking out five. The Wildcats appeared to be set with the top of their order coming to the plate in the bottom of the 7th, but Wong found a little bit more in the tank registering three of his strikeouts on the evening, setting the side down in order on strikes.

George Washington (12-5) has a full slate of games the remainder of the week hosting Cabell Midland and Logan today and tomorrow before traveling to Appalachian Power Park to take on Hurricane on Saturday. Nitro (14-4) will be at Cabell Midland Friday and travels to Greenup County, KY on Saturday to complete their week of slated games.
