Haire's Walk-Off Lifts Berkeley Prep over Calvary Christian

Rocco Iervasi
Florida Director of Operations/Area Scout

Tampa, FL - Thursday night featured a matchup between two extremely talented teams in Berkeley Prep hosting Calvary Christian, and it did not disappoint. Getting the start for Berkeley Prep was uncommitted 2020 Ian Brown. Brown came out attacking the zone sitting 81-85 mph with some armside run. Mixed in a 67-69 mph curveball with depth. Brown would go the first three innings of the game allowing two earned runs.

Calvary Christian got on the board early in the first as 2020 Cleveland College commit
Kyle Flynn singled and would later score on a balk. 2020 FSU commit Vince Smith followed that up with a double, but he would be stranded on the basepaths.

Getting the start for Calvary Christian was 2021 USF commit Tyler Dietz. Dietz is an athletic arm that keeps getting better every time I see him. He was sitting 89-93 and topped 94 mph with the fastball. He has feel for the slider and changeup and can throw both pitches in any count for strikes. Dietz would go five innings, allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts.

Berkeley Prep clawed back in the second inning to tie the game after an RBI single from uncommitted 2020
Roman Samson. But, Calvary would take that lead back in the third as 2021 NC State commit Tommy White launched a solo shot to left to give his team a 2-1 lead. Vince Smith would later score to make it 3-1. Calvary would add a run in the fourth on an RBI single from uncommitted 2021 Kevin Blowers.

Uncommitted 2021
Will Parkinson came in relief for Berkeley and slowed down the Calvary offense. The southpaw was working 82-84 and topped 86 with his fastball. He mixed in a breaking ball at 68-72 mph that is a swing and miss pitch. Parkinson would go 3 ⅔ allowing just one run.

Berkeley started to crawl their way back with runs in the fifth and sixth to make it a one run game. In the bottom of the seventh, after the leadoff hitter walked, uncommitted 2020
Alex Haire stepped up and hit a two-run walk-off homer to win the game for Berkeley. The game would end with a final score of 5-4.
