High School Crosscheck: Week 6

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

When it comes to the spring season, the top high school position players typically perform well, but it takes a great deal of patience on their part as their abilities are no secret and opposing pitchers will try to avoid getting beat by them. SS Bobby Witt Jr. (Colleyville Heritage HS, TX) has been a household name for most of his high school career and could be a top five pick in June. Pitchers would love to pitch around him, but he has a killer lineup behind him and he’s taking full advantage of seeing pitches to hit. On Saturday, the Oklahoma recruit went 3-for-4 with a double and his eighth home run of the season. That raised his average to .578 and 19 of his 34 hits are for extra bases. On his current eight-game hit streak, he is batting .710 (22-for-31) with seven home runs. He also hopped on the mound to close the game out and sat 90-92 mph.

Here are some notes from elsewhere around the country…
