Lake Brantley Handles Winter Springs

Winter Springs, FL—The talented Lake Brantley HS, FL, took on Winter Springs HS, FL, last night in a conference game that featured a strong pitching match-up between 2016 RHP Mike Ruff (Lake Brantley HS, FL), a Florida Atlantic recruit, and 2017 RHP Altoon Coleman (Winter Springs HS, FL), a Florida State recruit. While Ruff shut the Bears offense down for six innings, giving up one run on one hit and two walks while striking out 10, it was a different story for Coleman. He went 3 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two.

Lake Brantley got on the board first in the second inning when 2016 UT Alex Wills, a Franklin Pierce recruit, singled home 2016 C Luis Oliver, an Embry Riddle recruit. A five-run fourth inning sealed the deal for Lake Brantley with 2016 UT Austin Makarewicz, 2016 IF Jay Charleston, 2016 SS Harrison Ray and 1B Paxton Rigby all collected RBIs. Charleston is committed to Tennessee while Ray is committed to Vanderbilt and Rigby is a Georgia Tech recruit.

Winter Springs finally got on the board in the sixth inning with a leadoff walk and infield error that led to a run. Lake Brantley added two more runs in the seventh when 2018 OF Nick Wells walked, Charleston singled and Ray knocked them both in with a double in right-center field. The Bears scored one more in the last inning when 2016 OF Juan Carlos Abreu led off with a single and later scored on an RBI single from 2018 C Cain Jordan. The final score was 8-2.
