Trinity, FL - Last night featured a matchup of ranked opponents with No. 23 Mitchell hosting No. 16 Wharton. A pair of Miami recruits took the hill as lefty Ashton Crowther faced off against right hander Ryan Fry.

Ashton Crowther got the start for Mitchell going 5 strong. He allowed no runs on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts. He worked the fastball in the mid/upper 80s mixing speeds with the breaking ball and changeup.

On the other side, Ryan Fry started for Wharton. He would go 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts. He sat 89-91 with his fastball and mixed in above average offspeed with a slider and changeup.

Scout Notes

2022 Ryan Fry, RHP, Wharton (Miami)

Fry has always been one of the most consistent arms in the 2022 class. Year by year he throws strikes, spins an above average breaking ball, and can throw the fastball by hitters when needed. The 6-foot-3, 185 pound right hander started last night for Wharton. Works athletically to the plate getting downhill with ease. Quick arm from a high ¾ slot. The fastball sat 89-91 mph with downhill riding action and some sink. The breaking ball has improved even more from last year. 78-80 mph with spin rates up to 2500 rpm. Throws a hard fading changeup at 81-83 mph that falls away from bats. Fry went 5 innings last night allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts.

2023 Aidan Miller, INF, Mitchell (Arkansas)

The No. 1 2023 in the state showed off his highly touted tools in last night’s win over Wharton. 6-foot-2, 210 pounds with strength throughout his frame. Went 2 for 3 last night with 2 extra base hits. Muscled an inside fastball passed the third baseman and down the line for a double in the 3rd. Then followed with an RBI triple to right center in the 5th. He was able to let a high and away fastball get deep and drove it the other way. The strength and above average bat speed make Miller one of the most dangerous hitters in the 2023 class. Easy power to all fields with the ability to find barrels consistently. Defensively, Mitchell has Miller playing shortstop and he looked the part. Moved athletically making several nice plays up the middle and on slow rollers. Miller will be a 3B/OF at the next level but the athleticism and arm strength he shows at short will only help his case. A high follow Draft prospect in the 2023 class.

2023 Trevor Harrison, RHP, Mitchell

Harrison continues to be on an upward trend on the mound. 6-foot-3, 205 pound right hander has gotten stronger over the last year and it has really shown. Continues to make velo jumps every time I’ve seen him and was now up to 91 mph last night. Loose arm without much effort. Sat 89-90 with the fastball with developing offspeed. Struck out 3 in 2 shutout innings for Mitchell. Harrison should be a high follow uncommitted arm that schools should be jumping on.
