JACKSONVILLE, FL—OF/LHP Jud Fabian (Trinity Catholic HS, FL) showed well at the North Florida Open this past weekend. The 2019 two-way player looks like he may turn in to a quality prospect as he physically matures.
Fabian stands at 6 feet, 155 pounds with a very young, athletic, loose, lean and projectable frame. He has good outfield actions with a solid-average arm. It’s loose and live, creating good carry with accuracy. The ball really jumps out of his hand and he hit 85 mph from the outfield. On the mound, his arm worked loosely and easily from a 3/4 slot, producing a fastball up to 81. His fastball had late, natural life. His secondary stuff was solid. His curveball had a tight, 3/4 rotation to it and his changeup showed the same natural life as his fastball. He maintained good arm speed on the pitch.
He also swung the bat very well. He has good bat speed and showed some power for a young kid that doesn’t have a lot of strength yet. He has a relaxed and advanced approach. His stance is open and upright and he gets separation for his load. He has nice plane through the zone and gets great leverage in his swing. He uses his lower half well with balance in his finish. The ball really jumps off his bat and he consistently drives the ball from gap to gap with authority. He should be on college recruiters’ radars soon.
