The Hotlist: Prospects Gaining Attention From Scouts

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

The draft is less than seven weeks away. The weather and injuries have wreaked havoc on some of the country’s top prospects—college and high school. There has been plenty of coverage on the best players in Prep Baseball Report’s coverage area and we’ll certainly bring more as the draft creeps closer. Right now, we’re going to look at some guys that were seemingly under the radar going into the season, but have generated some buzz this spring.

Jack Alkire, RHP, DeMatha Catholic HS, MD
An undersized righty at 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, Alkire has caught some attention this spring after making a jump in velocity. He sits in the 88-91 mph range, but has reportedly touched 93. He has a quick delivery and throws with regular effort through a 3/4 arm slot. His fastball has late life and he commands his breaking ball. He also shows fell for a changeup with late movement.
