The Jesuit Tigers hosted the Venice Indians for Jesuit's regular season opening game. Venice started off hot with lead off hitter Brent Killam drawing a walk, Scott Dubrule bunting him over to second, and Shane Shifflett reaching on an error. After a Shifflett stolen base, he and Killam were both able to score off a Tigers error that came off the bat of Trevor Holloway. Jesuit was able to survive the inning only allowing two runs. In the bottom half of the first, Venice starting pitcher Cole Kragel made it through the inning pretty easily, only allowing one hit to Jesuit's center fielder and Duke signee Kennie Taylor.

In the top of the second, Tigers starter Bobby Hearn was able to put up a zero after allowing two unearned in the first. In the bottom half, Kragel worked a 1-2-3 inning, striking out two. After Hearn hit the first batter of the third inning, he was able to produce a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning quickly. In the bottom half, Jesuit still couldn't figure out Kragel's sidearm delivery and again couldn't get a runner to reach base.

In the top of the fourth, Venice catcher Jake Grubbs led off the inning with a double in the left-center field gap. After a Trevor Holloway walk, Colin Christello bunted both runners over to put them in scoring position. The sacrifice paid off as the next hitter, Tyler Gardner, was able to drive in Grubbs with a single. The Indians were able to tack on one more run in the fourth when Langston Provitt drove in Holloway with a single of his own. In the bottom half of the fourth, Taylor was able to rope another single to center and steal second, but could not be driven in.

In the top of the fifth, Hearn was relieved by sophomore Drew Martin, who was able to put up a big zero for the Tigers. Unfortunately, Jesuit could not respond and again went 1-2-3, this time by the arm of Colin Christello. In the top of the sixth, the Indians threatened with a Christello HBP and a Jacob Louke pinch-hit single, but could not add another insurance run. In the bottom of the sixth, Jacob Mocny was able to lead off with a single, but that was the only base runner Christello surrendered in the inning. Ronnie Ramirez was then able to come in and give the Tigers an important shutdown inning in the top of the seventh, hoping to wake up the Jesuit bats in the last half-inning of the game.

Cole Gibbs was able to start the seventh for the Tigers with a line drive single to left and advanced to second on a wild pitch. However, after a few walks and sac fly by Ramirez, the Indians were able to get the last out and leave the bases loaded. Venice won by a final score of 4-1.
